  • 07: Nisreen Elsaim, Sudanese Climate Activist
    2025/06/13

This episode of LegacyMakers is with the Sudanese climate activist Nisreen Elsaim, a fierce advocate for climate justice. Her work has earned her significant recognition. In 2020, she was selected to chair the United Nations Secretary-General's youth advisory board on climate change alongside six other young activists. She’s a member of the Marianne Initiative for Human Rights Defenders, an initiative launched by the French President, Emmanuel Macron; and a Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy. Focusing on climate change, peace, and security, with a special emphasis on youth as pivotal players in climate adaptation, action, peacebuilding, and security.

Nisreen talks to hosts Giles Trendle and Sangeeta Waldron about the absence of voices from the Global South on the world stage, especially given the diversity of Africa and Asia. She underscores how the same faces dominate climate conversations, often sidelining the regions most affected by the crisis, and the role that celebrity status plays in this dynamic.

She opens up about the devastating impact of war and climate change on her home country of Sudan, describing how flooding has triggered a cholera outbreak. She also shares her latest mission to empower young people in conflict zones who are doubly impacted by the climate crisis.

    2025/06/04

In this episode of Offbeat, hosts Giles Trendle and Sangeeta Waldron unpack Episode 5 of Legacy Makers, which features Palestinian journalist Shrouq Al Aila - a courageous female voice reporting from Gaza.

This episode poses an urgent question: Can the world reach net zero or build a sustainable future while ‘mankind’ continues to wage war? With global conflict zones now covering an area twice the size of India since 2021, this conversation confronts the dangerous convergence of war, climate, and the freedom to tell the truth.
