  • Ep. 24: The Queens of the Tarot
    2023/08/10

What distinguishes the Queens of the Tarot from the other Court Cards? How does each of them express the element attached to her? What are the astrological signs and energy patterns (modalities) attributed to the Queens, and how do these manifest in the standardized images of the Rider Waite Smith Tarot?

  • Ep. 23: Tarot Key 7 - The Chariot
    2023/08/06

What might be the essence of the 7th card of the Tarot’s 22 Major Arcana or Keys, The Chariot? What are some of the themes attached to it that can help us understand the monumental role it plays as a Major Key? What do the history and dominant imagery of the Chariot evoke in terms of metaphysical traditions and teachings such as astrology and numerology? And what psychological
conditions, life circumstances, or rites of passage might the card relate to?

  • Ep. 22: North Node in Aries - South Node in Libra
    2023/07/27

The Lunar Nodes have great significance in both ancient and modern astrology, where they are often associated with destined trajectories and life lessons that must be learned. As each node is connected to the other through an exact opposition, together they form what’s called the Nodal Axis. On July 13th, 2023, the Nodal Axis shifted from Taurus (North Node) - Scorpio (South Node) to Aries (North Node) - Libra (South Node); the axis will remain in Aries - Libra until Jan. 29th, 2025. What might the Nodal Axis be calling for, in transit and in natal charts as well, when it’s placed in the opposing signs Aries - Libra? How should this placement be understood in relation to the polarity of the 1st (Self) and 7th (Other) Houses, commonly associated with the polarity of Aries - Libra? How might the transiting axis communicate its energy differently to different birth charts, and what might make some birth charts more responsive to this axis than other.

  • Ep. 21: The Four Temperaments
    2023/07/20

If you have some exposure to traditional astrology, or modern revivals of it, there’s a chance you will have heard of the four temperaments, of which one was believed to be more dominant than the others in each person’s constitution: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. While this theory originated in a medical context in the work of the Greek physician Hippocrates (5th–4th centuries BCE), and was put to practice in astrological medicine as well, for centuries astrologers used it to categorize and distinguish people psychologically. What’s the (pseudo-)scientific basis of this theory? What are the psychological profiles described by the four temperaments, and what astrological techniques did traditional astrologers use to determine which temperament is indicated as the most dominant one in the birth chart? Also, could the theory of the four temperaments have implications for synastry, or the astrology of relationships? Join Khalid, Mandy, and Kevin for a deep dive into this fascinating topic!

  • Ep. 20: Botching up the Tarot?
    2023/07/13

Intuition is perhaps by definition a spontaneous process. However, in the case of the Tarot, it’s a gift that needs to be honed through diligent practice, and integrated anew in each reading with the complex recorded lore attached to each card. How common is it for Tarot readers to read authentically, and how often do they “wing it” with spontaneous interpretations that sidestep the rigorous demands of the craft? Join us for a lively discussion of this topic, inspired by a random draw of the Eight of Pentacles in reverse!

  • Ep. 18: The Knights of the Tarot
    2023/06/29

As their meanings, functions, and potentials lie in a mysterious space that bridges actual people with experiences, situations, or energies they might encounter or become at certain stages in their lives, the Court Cards of the Tarot often seem to require a special approach in readings, and to elicit special thoughts and reactions as well. Seen through this context, what might we make of the Knights of the Tarot, who could arguably be seen as the least static members of the Court Card family! Join the colorful Knightly Pageant with Kevin, Khalid and Mandy!

  • Ep. 17: Changing Your Ascendant?
    2023/06/22

Can you change your Ascendant—and, potentially, the way all of the planets, angles, sensitive points, and house cusps are distributed in your birth chart—simply by relocating and settling in a place of your choice? This idea has become popular in some corners of modern astrology, allowing, as it seems to do, for people who feel less fortunate than they’d like to be to choose a more fortunate birth chart. Interestingly, this idea implies that striking new roots in another location, and at a time of one’s choice, is astrologically equivalent to being born on a day and hour that one doesn’t choose. But could such an equivalence exist without negating a cosmological tenet fundamental to natal astrology: namely, that the power of fate, as reflected by astrological conditions specific to time and place, determines the time and place of a soul’s birth? And is the idea of a different ascendant completely at odds with the basic spirit of astrology, or are there certain techniques where it can be valid and useful? Join Mandy, Khalid, and Kevin for a discussion of this deep and fascinating topic.
