    2024/09/06

This episode talks about a comic strip that was around the end of the 1990s, Liberty Meadows. Although it lasted for 3 years, there was a great potential where it could have been another great comic strip. I also talk about the man responsible for it, Frank Cho. So walk with me as we talk about some outrage, controversies, and comedy.

    Enjoy

  • Guillermo vs The Sony Spiderverse
    2024/08/30

Today, I will make the attempt to make some sense of the Sony Spider-Man Universe. What I mean by that is explain my views and expectations of Spider-Man and by extension, the stand alone movies that does not include Spider-Man. This includes Venom, Morbius, Madam Web, and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter movie. I hope you learn something from this and I am curious as to your feelings about the Sony Spider-Man movies.

  • Felix the Cat
    2024/08/23

Today, we talk about the first animated character, Felix the Cat. As I was doing the research, I learned that he is and has been all over the place for a long time. I warn you, there will be some AMSR as I put some of my comics together. Also, there will be some vintage talk, as you hear about a comic geek move through the world back in the day. Hope you learn something and enjoy.

Have something to say? That's cool.

  • Episode #13: Calvin and Hobbes
    2024/08/09

Today I talk about one of the last great newspaper comic strips, Calvin and Hobbes. There is a beautiful story here about a boy and his friend, and there is something more to that legacy (including Calvin peeing on everything). Hopefully you learn something from this and hope you enjoy.

    Recommended Reads:

Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson (either the complete collection or in volumes work just as fine :)

  • Before you watch Deadpool and Wolverine...
    2024/07/26

With one of the biggest movies coming up, this is a good time for your friendly comic geek to explain some of the stuff that is going on before you watch Deadpool and Wolverine. I am not the God of stories (Loki), but I will weave both the comic origins and what some of the movies got wrong between Deadpool and Wolverine. Get comfy, as this is a ride. As always, I thank you for taking the time to listen. Much appreciated.

Wolverine: Origins vol. 1 By Daniel Way (the beginning of James Howlett and the origin of Logan)

Wolverine by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller (the inspiration to The Wolverine movie)

Old Man Logan by Mark Millar (done by the guy that did Wanted and Kick Ass, this was the inspiration to the movie Logan)

Deadpool: The Circle Chase by Fabian Nicieza (Wade Wilson's first mini-series in Deadpool fashion)

Deadpool & Cable by Fabian Nicieza (This is buddy cop comics at its finest and gives you a clue about Deadpool 2)

Deadpool: Dead Reckoning by Joe Kelly and Peter Woods (A great story that tells you a lot about Wade's character)

  • Betty Boop: The first woman in animation and the complex story
    2024/07/19

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to listen. Today, I talk about Betty Boop and the very interesting story that comes along with her. I mean, you have seen her one way or the other. From T-shirts to Jewelry to cameos in movies, you know who she is. She was before Marylin Monroe and Barbie, and I will tell you that she deserves a movie. I will say that I thought that the comic strip was first, but I was wrong. Enjoy me trying to explain all of it and hope you learn something from it.
