The Minnesota Twins go to Tampa and leave with a split against the Rays and maintain their lead in the wild-card standings, which has David and Dan looking ahead a bit at the playoffs. With that comes many questions: Will Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa be back? Would the Twins rather play the Astros or the Yankees? But more currently, David and Dan agree that the Twins didn't look great against the Rays defensively, though they disagree over the performance of Louie Varland in Game 3. David wonders whether Christian Vazquez needs to go back to Grand Slam or Triple Play, while Dan discusses the value of Eddy Julien to this team the rest of the year. The Minnesota Twins finally end their series-losing drought by taking two out of three against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays at Target Field. It takes a big Royce Lewis home run to do it, and David and Dan are so glad to see No. 23 step back up in a big spot in a big way. David desperately wants to know why Rocco Baldelli left his usual place in the dugout, while Dan is curious about how the Twins might approach a best-of-three playoff series in regards to the starting pitchers. They appreciate how Rocco handled the bullpen and Kyle Farmer (with some overlap between the two appreciations), and then they look forward to the four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Yet again the Minnesota Twins lose a series, this one a sweep at Target Field by the Atlanta Braves. The Twins are now solidly in third place in the AL Central and in third place in the AL Wild Card, with teams steadily gaining on them during this recent streak of eight losses in 10 games. David's optimism is at a season-low, and he has many critiques for Rocco Baldelli and Tommy Watkins. Dan is impressed with David Festa but little else. Both are still thinking this is a playoff team, but it is one with serious bullpen issues. And, in true Minnesota fashion, they recap where they were during the big storm during Game 1 that ruined Bailey Ober's day (though perhaps his day could have been worse?).
