Welcome to Me & Virgil: A Genesis Brother's Podcast Episode 3: Danceable Part 1.
In this episode we focus and talk about side 1 of the album that started it all for us: We Can't Dance, released on 11th November by Virgin Records.
It is, as mentioned, the album that introduced to us what would become our favourite band of all time. And so naturally we very heavily discuss the impact the album had on our lives (and still does) and the many nostalgic feelings and stories that came from it especially being that present at the time of its release.
Considering our love for this album, we decided not to rush ourselves and so split the album into two episodes. This episode, we then cover side 1 of this album, with the tracks being "No Son of Mine" up to "Dreaming While You Sleep".
A lot of relatable documentaries are also mentioned, including where Daniel shares about Phil appearing on VH1 Storytellers and performing plus and explaining the birth of "No Son of Mine" and "I Can't Dance". You can watch the full episode including the Dance tracks here. "I Can't Dance" appears at 10:42 mark and No Son appears right afterwards at 15:06.
Phil also covers "Since I Lost You" which we will share in the next episode.
Other documentaries mentioned, are the very special behind the scenes secure footage of the band recording this very album, where Virgil and Daniel drool upon the overall sheer sound and production, along with comparisons to the live versions from the "We Can't Dance" tour and beyond.
The "No Admittance" documentary can be found here.
Other documentaries shared are "Genesis A History", made the previous year before the Dance album which you can view right here.
Along with what Daniel calls, "a director's cut" of the same documentary known as "The Story So Far" which, despite it's viewing and sound quality, Daniel still regards it as a golden gem, and you can check all that out here.
The drum bit makes a return, this time using a song from the album as an example, Daniel shares how the drums can be played in a very different way thanks to the influence of a certain former Genesis member.
"Virgil" is Alex C. Telander.
"Me" is Daniel Telander.
This episode was edited and mixed by Dan Telander, and produced and hosted by Dan Telander and Alex C. Telander.
