    Melanie (She/They) and Sheila Cruz-Morales (She/They) are the co-founders and Directors (Deputy and Executive) of College Access for Non-Citizens, a nonprofit organization that was founded in the pursuit of assisting undocumented, first-generation, low-income, BIPOC students receive access to higher education. They are multi-hyphenate Organizers, Activists, and Digital Creators, with their advocacy efforts being recognized by President Biden, the White House, NYT, Teen Vogue, and Telemundo, acknowledging them as Latinx Leaders creating significant change for their communities.   • Black x Japanese American Solidarity in ‘Desolate Dreams’

    Desolate Dreams is a short film in pre-production set in 1942 in downtown Los Angeles. It follows Robert Parker (Deon Tillman), an African American journalist who advocates for justice alongside a Japanese American family forced into a prison camp after issuing Executive Order 9066 following the events of Pearl Harbor.

    In this conversation, we’re joined by Writer - Director Kiyoka “Kex” Rhodes, Deon Tillman, and Brent Yoshida to discuss the pre-production process, the inspiration behind ‘Desolate Dreams’ and what this project means to them on a professional and personal level.
