Spurred on by the arrival of his infant son, comedian Nazeem Hussain visits his ancestral home of Sri Lanka to find his origin story. There's just one hitch: Nazeem's mum has forbidden him from going to Sri Lanka, believing that if he travels alone in the country he’ll be kidnapped, or worse.

Starting with a private gentlemen's club, Naz quickly discovers a discomfiting element Sri Lanka has in common with Australia: colonialism. Naz then decides to explore the colonial side of Sri Lanka, traveling to the tea fields and beyond to bear witness to the strange colonial artefacts left by the British on this island.

Naz goes in search of the liberal, sexy Sri Lanka from the pre-colonial era (before the British made everyone wear ties and bras). He soon discovers the post-colonial sexual and cultural inhibition he's exploring is a very real obstacle to freedom for many in Sri Lanka's LGBTQI+ community.

Throughout his life, Naz has believed Sri Lanka to be a place of religious harmony; somewhere where all religions and cultures get along. Naz tests his theory, with an overnight mountain trek, plagued all the while by a curse threatening to end him.

Naz goes in search of Sri Lanka's coolest subculture, and instead finds a way to get himself wet, filthy and beaten in a secluded jungle dojo by a martial arts guru.

Naz is hot on the trail of the welding doctor, having learned of this magical medic who can fix bones with secret oils. Naz's childhood illnesses were cured by Sri Lanka's traditional medicinal remedies, but he's never traveled this deep into one of the oldest wellness cultures on the planet.

Naz explores a theme that has been an undercurrent in all of his trips to Sri Lanka: conflict. In the months following the notorious Easter bombings, Naz travels to Jaffna to talk to Tamil people, and finds the northern province in a state of tension in light of the recent election.

Naz is warned that given some of the conversations he's been having in Sri Lanka, he might have a hard time getting through customs on the way home. Naz ultimately receives an overwhelmingly regal welcome home, and in contrasting his experiences in Sri Lanka and back home, he discovers the story he wants to pass on to his son.
