    Music intro by: Gail Nobles

Hello I'm Gail Nobles and you’re listening to NEEDLE HOUSE RECORDINGS, music and songs from peoples lives. We all have ups and downs trying to make things work out which is what I've been going through and what others have been going through.

Today I'm going to talk about a song titled I'm in a Different World written and produced by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Edward Holland Jr. "I'm in a Different World" is the final single that Holland–Dozier–Holland produced for the Four Tops.

    Lead vocal by: Levi Stubbs

Background vocals by: Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Lawrence Payton and Renaldo "Obie" Benson

Additional background vocals by: The Andantes (An American female session group for Motown).

    Instrumentation by: The Funk Brothers

And of course, you know the record label: Motown.

The single was released in 1968. "I'm in a Different World" peaked at number 51 on the US pop chart and number 27 on the UK chart. No. 33 on the US Billboard Best selling R& B singles chart.

If you listen to the song I'm in a Different World and read the lyrics, you might understand that you're in a different world too. The lyrics say: When the love light shines upon my face
    I'm in a different world …”

That’s the kind of world that we want to be in. The world that sweet and true.

I am Gail Nobles, and you listening to Needle House Recordings.

I'm so glad that Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five arrived when they did. If it were not for them, I wouldn't know what real rap music is today.

I'm Gail Nobles. Today’s topic is Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

    Singing: Grandmaster Flash Grandmaster Flash

Rapping: That rapper over there, I don't know his name Rap music today just ain't the same But I know the Flash can make a change With the Furious Five and all the gang.

Singing 2x: Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five I'm so glad they arrived.

Host: You're listening to a Needle House Recording Commentary Music Podcast.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furios Five were a hip hop group formed in the South Bronx of New York City in 1978. The group’s members were Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, Keef Cowboy, Scorpio, and Rahiem.

I love the hip hop group because they know how to manipulate sounds and create new music using sound effects and beats with turntables and mixers. They have the scratch sounds. I love to hear their breakbeats where they use sample recordings from funk & R&B in their music. Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five knows how to rap about the street life without misleading the audience to violence. They know how to move the crowd to dance and have a good time when they rhyme.

When I was growing up, the older folks would get on their young family members about rapping. They didn’t like it. They said it was all just noise.

But I learned something about music listening to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. I learned how to stand up and make a speech with confidence. Rap music had all that in there.

But a new generation came along in rap putting down women, and there was explicit lyrics and violence. Rap was a good thing, and it doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
Thank you Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five for making rap a good thing. Thank you for all the good times in rap music.

I’m Gail Nobles. Thank you for listening. Tune in again next time. ..

    Better Days Are Coming (Singing)
We’re waiting for better days, and a great future. We’re waiting for the trumpet to Sound. That will be the day when we’ll all be free. No more fighting for liberty. That will be the day when the enemy will be destroyed. All the saints of God will be on one accord. All the evil in the world will have to flee. And we’ll have peace in the land for eternity.

You can’t expect a child to know unless you teach him. You must discipline a child. Proverbs 13:24 tells us, “He that spareth his Rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteness him bedtimes.”

You can’t expect the child to grow up right if you don’t spend time with that child. And when you don’t discipline a child, it doesn’t mean abuse the child. There’s a difference. A good spanking won’t kill a child.

Verse: They made him face the wall They wouldn’t let him learn. And the teachers talked about him in the lounge.

Chorus: Don’t mistreat the children Lift them up You’ve got to teach a child Don’t ever put them down Let them learn.

Do you have a J5 Forty Five Collection?

I hate it when records get scratched up. I hate it when they start skipping. A record can turn into a whole different sound. A terrible sound. A record can loose it’s shine.

I remember a few old Jackson Five Forty Fives. One More Chance - I Found That Girl. They had the Motown label on them which made it easy to find the Jackson Five in the record stack. No other record label looks like Motown’s.

I wanted to play some of the Jackson Five records here at Needle House. And it’s not allowed. So I had to make some music of my own.

I’ve been listening to the Jacksons since I was a baby. Their music was like milk. I was already learning something about music and didn’t know it. The first Jackson Five song I remember is I’ll Be There. It was something about the music and Michael’s sweet child’s voice that made me listen. I couldn’t sing, talk, tell, or express what I was feeling when I heard the song. I remember being very quite. There was something about the harmony of the Jacksons.

As I got older, the Jacksons got older. Their music began to change,. They were singing songs like Blame It On the Boogie - Shake Your Body. I began to notice them more on television. It was hard not to sing and dance to their music.

The Jacksons had the greatest disco sound. They made you want to listen over and over and over again. Their music back then was of the 70’s, and to me, their music has a great sound that makes me want to dance today.

It’s never to late to add the Jackson Five to your record collection. If you have them, you can always pull out their albums or their 45’s. Then you can jam.

GOD blessed a man named Stevland Hardaway Morris to be born on May 13, 1950. He is known professionally as Stevie Wonder. Stevie is a great singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He was blind shortly after his birth, and he began playing instruments at an early age. The piano, harmonica, and drums. Stevie formed a singing partnership with a friend, calling themselves Stevie and John. They played on street corners and occasionally at parties and dances.

In 1961, when aged 11, Wonder sang his own composition, “ Lonely Boy” to Ronnie White of the Miracles. White then took Wonder and his mother to an audition at Motown where CEO Berry Gordy signed Wonder to Motown’s Tamla label. Before signing, Producer Clarence Paul gave him the name Little Stevie Wonder. He got that name because many people were amazed by his ability to play numerous instruments and his ability to sing both at the same time.

Stevie Wonder has made so many great songs. I could never forget him, and he’s a wonder in my song. Joy in my heart thinking of him and music.

    Running Man

This is Gail Nobles on Needle House Recordings. Whose running now? Can’t sit down!
Some people just got to be gone all the time. I had a friend, and she once told me that when they are like that, they got car but. Just riding around wasting gas. Sometimes things happen to people that stay gone all the time. I know a guy that lost his life one day sneaking out the back door. If he had been home, he might would have been living today. We got people running the streets all the time or got to catch that next plain and got to catch that next train. Some just living the fast life and in the fast lane. Got to catch that sale on Monday and got to go to the festival on Tuesday. Just running around like the running man. I’m Gail Nobles where people become the music while others live the music on Needle House Recordings. You’ve just heard "Running Man" by Gail Nobles copyright © 2020.
