  • One Single Story is a weekly podcast from Open Door Church to help the church engage with the Bible outside of Sunday morning. Currently, we are going through one book of the Bible each week and focusing on a theme in each. Why One Single Story? We believe that the Bible is one single story from beginning to end. It is the story of Jesus Christ: why we need Him, that He was coming, came, died, rose again, ascended to heaven, and today lives with us. For this, we are thankful. Reading plan available at www.onesinglestory.com.

General Theme for the Week: Holiness Each Day

Today's Lesson: Holiness and the Kingdom of Priests

On this edition of One Single Story, Pastors Stephen Mizell and Chris Rexroad discuss the following questions:

The doctrine that “every believer is a priest” does not mean that every believer should be a pastor or teacher in the church. So how do all believers live out a priest-like ministry in every day life?

Be honest. Would you prefer it if God gave "common Christians" a lower standard then He gives to leaders?

None of us are perfect. What does it mean to you that Christ’s own righteousness and perfection has been conferred upon you?

The reading for the day is Leviticus 21.

Today's Lesson: Holiness and Controversial Issues

On this edition of One Single Story, Pastors Stephen Mizell and Chris Rexroad discuss the following questions:

What is your reaction at the idea that the following sins require the death penalty?

    • Dishonoring parents
    • Quarreling or holding a grudge against someone
    • Gossip
    • Pride

What is the difference between someone who agrees with capital punishment morally and Scripturally, but disagrees with the obvious injustices in our legal system, which often releases some guilty offenders and punishes some innocent offenders?

Some of the sins in Leviticus 20 are punishable by death, others are punishable by being "cut off.” What do these punishments indicate about the nature of God?

The reading for the day is Leviticus 20.

General Theme for the Week: Holiness Each Day

    Today's Lesson: Everyday Holiness

On this edition of One Single Story, Pastors Stephen Mizell and Chris Rexroad discuss the following questions:

Even though we live in a different time and culture, how do our everyday actions reflect the identity of God as a holy God?

Actions of modern day “bullying” are mentioned in the text (e.g. don’t make workers wait on their money, v. 13; don’t insult the deaf, or make the blind stumble, v. 14; don’t stand idle if your neighbor is threatened, v. 16). What do these actions have to do with holiness?

The reading for the day is Leviticus 19.
