Open Conversation with Malik is back with EPISODE 7: Straight Outta Brooklyn Feat. Stephen Benjamin. 

On episode 7 I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Author Stephen Benjamin, a guy I met during my time in the military. In the beginning on this episode we discussed our time in the military and how live was during those times as young soldiers. This led into us talking about hip-hop music and who our Top 5 rappers, this would then lead into Stephen bringing up my career as a rapper as he began reciting some of my old lyrics. 

From there we move into what Stephen was here for and that is his book series titled “Urban Tales” a self published adult non-fiction novel series based on life events.  This novel series is edgy and filled with drama, chaos, heartbreak, love, lust, desires, hope and happiness....A must read piece of genius.

Welcome back to Open Conversation with Malik. I took a short break for the holidays but I am back with Episode 5: I Can Bring Home the Bacon Feat. Kimberly Yates.

Kim is the current owner of “Sky’s The Limit”, Elizabethtown Swim & Fitness, and has ties with other local businesses with the Elizabethtown/Hardin County Area. Kim details how she got into teaching, liked it but knew her passion was somewhere else so took a leap of faith and got into real estate. Kim also talks about seeing how a trampoline park could benefit the community, how her and her family came up with the name “Sky’s The Limit”, to also acquiring Elizabethtown Swim & Fitness.

Welcome to Open Conversation with Malik. Today on Episode 4: The House that Stan Gourad Built Feat: Coach Stanley Gourad. I this episode I had the opportunity to sit down with the head coach at the University of Southern Indiana. This was a special day as I got to interview not only a friend but also, a hometown hero as he played his FIRST Division I basketball game in the OVC.

Like all of my other episodes I like to kick the show off with a background story about each one of my guest and then I give them the floor to tell their story. Stan and I grew up in Illinois together where I had the opportunity to see him play basketball in high school, pick up ball in the neighborhood, later on in college, and now watching him coach at the University of Southern Indiana. 

Packed inside this episode you get to hear Stan talk about his journey playing basketball at the high school level, later attending college to play basketball, being projected to be drafted in the late first round of the 1994 NBA Draft, injuries that required surgery, to now being the Head Coach at The University of Southern Indiana.

These fathers also give insight on how they feel their sons are currently doing in sports. Malik talks to each athlete about how they feel they have done over the years in sports, their outlook on their current year in football at North Hardin High School, and what their options look like so far for the next level.

Inside episode 2 From the Outside  Looking In I got to  catch up on old times with my former boss Ms. Vicki Pitre while stationed in Korea. Later they would bump back into each other at Fort Knox where I had the opportunity to coach her youngest son.

On my platform I like to let my guest tell their story and Ms. Vicki did just that as she details her journey growing up in foster care, having a child at an early age, to joining the military, and later retiring. 

Once retired Vicki would find herself back on the move headed to Kentucky where she opened up her business Pee Tree’s Glam Squad, a  hair salon in Radcliff, KY.

In episode 1 of Open Conversation with Malik he talks with North Hardin High School Basketball head coach Michael Baffour. 

Malik and Coach Baffour talks about growing up in Lexington, KY playing sports during his younger years while attending Bryan Station High School, and later attending the University of Louisville, where he had the opportunity to play basketball under coach Rick Pitino.

Since graduating from UofL Michael Baffour would go on to become coach where where he work with a lot of top tier athletes in the state of Kentucky. 

Recently Coach Baffour coaches at Male High School and is now starting NEW ERA as the head coach of North Hardin High School.
