Harmful algal blooms have been impacting the Western Lake Erie Basin for years and, based on rain, sun, wind, temperatures and other factors, no two years are the same. Over the past year, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has started to develop what’s called a TMDL for the Maumee River Watershed to address algal blooms and the sources of nutrients that attribute to those blooms.
