Here is Jason Marx at a recent Preston DJ Social event In Chews Yard. Jason who started DJing aged just 15, was born in Preston and grew up & lives in Bamber Bridge.
He’s worked in Greece, Spain and Croatia and supported Gok Wan, Craig Charles and MK. He also hosts his own podcast called the Funk Foundation. After working in nightlife for 13 years, and performing over 1,500 times across the UK, Jason is now hoping to create a community for DJs and other creatives through Preston DJ Social.
Preston DJ Social is a positive mental health project for DJ’s and this event was run in conjunction with Our House Your House from Manchester. It’s about bringing together people in an isolated career and improving their mental health. The aim is to get creatives from different experience levels in the same room, making friends and supporting each other - developing themselves creatively outside of commercial DJ work.
Long term, they’re trying to kick start an underground music scene in the city by developing a community of DJs, promoters and events spaces.
Here he is in conversation with local guy (from Leyland) Sam Shepherd the European Product Planner for Pioneer DJ, record box and Toraiz. With 18 years experience across various areas of the DJing industry here & internationally, he still hasn’t lost his Northern bite. What follows is 100 minutes of highly entertaining chat, rich with do’s & don’t in the industry, how to look after your mental health and the love of music.
As well as the event being a chance for DJ’s in the area to come and see old friends & make new ones the live audience also gets to ask some questions too - all of which adds up to a fascinating insight into life working in the industry on top of being a great night out. These sharing & wellbeing focused events happen at Chews Yard every 4 to 6 weeks.
Enjoy!
Thanks to Josh for doing the recording.
