So today we're going to talk about a topic that is both essential and let's face it a little daunting salary negotiation, whether you are stepping into a new role or looking for that well-deserved raise, negotiating your salary can make a world of difference in your career and life. So let's get into it with three powerful tips that will help you own that conversation with confidence.
So the other day I was thinking about my first job and I was thinking it was at iHOP. I was actually a hostess. And I think back then the pay was like five dollars an hour. And so you didn't back then you didn't negotiate. You just kind of took whatever they offered you and you were happy with it, right? And so things have changed. Of course, that was a hundred years ago.
But now people are more transparent about what your salary is going to be and what you actually can make. So I want to give you three tips that will help you navigate that conversation when the time comes.
So tip number one is to know your words. So first things first. Knowledge is power. So before you even step into that negotiation room, I want you to do your homework. Research industry standards understand the market rate for your role and gather data on what your peers are earning. You know, websites like glass store, pay scale, LinkedIn salary, those are gold mines for information. And arm with this knowledge, you'll be able to set a realistic and competitive salary range. Remember, you bring unique skills and experiences to the table and you deserve to be compensated accordingly.
Tip number two is communicate your value. Now, now that you know your worth, it's time to communicate it effectively. When you're negotiating, don't just throw out a number. I want you to back it up with concrete examples of your achievements and your contributions. Did you increase sales by 20%? Did you leave a project that saved the company money? I want you to highlight your accomplishments and show your employer that you are in asset to the team.
And tip number three, practice makes perfect. Finally, practice, practice, practice.egotiation is a skill, and just like any skill, it gets better with practice. Soole play that conversation with a friend, a mentor, even in front of the mirror, anticipate potential objectives and prepare your responses. The more you practice, the more confident you'll feel when the real conversation happens. Confidence is key. Walk into that room knowing that you are worthy of what you are asking for.
All right, my friends. Those are my top three tips for mastering the art of salary negotiation. Remember your passion and your purpose deserve a paycheck that reflects your value. So go out there and own it.
