Episode 41 - When Hope Feels Gone — A Word to the Pastor Who’s Hurting

In this deeply personal episode of Pastors in Recovery, Jon shares the heartbreaking loss of a woman his wife once mentored—someone she had loved through the darkest seasons of depression, who tragically ended her life. This episode isn't about having the perfect answers—it's a call to the pastor who feels invisible, exhausted, and alone.

If you’ve lost your faith, your hope, or your will to keep going, this message is for you. Jon breaks down the truth in 1 Corinthians 13:13—faith, hope, and love—and explains why love is the greatest. Because it’s love that shows up. Love that restores hope. And hope that allows faith to rise again.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Let this episode be the voice that reaches into your darkness and reminds you: you still matter. And you're not alone.

  • Episode 39 - Getting Out of God’s Way - When Our Pride Hijacks the Pulpit
    2025/05/07
Episode 39 - Getting Out of God’s Way - When Our Pride Hijacks the Pulpit

I wasn’t planning on recording this episode. I almost pulled an old teaching from the archives. But during an open share group with another pastor, some deep reflection surfaced—and I knew I had to hit record. In this episode, I share two stories from my past as a pastor that forced me to ask hard questions about pride, performance, and control. One where I preached while sick, and another where I thought I was “on fire” from the pulpit… until my wife gave me a dose of truth. I dig into Romans 5 and wrestle with the difference between Spirit-led obedience and adrenaline-fueled pride. And I ask:
    • Does God really need my performance to change lives?
    • Am I trying to serve… or trying to control?
    • Is it the Holy Spirit moving… or just my ego in disguise?
If you’re a pastor or ministry leader struggling to surrender what you think God needs from you, this one’s for you.

🎵 Also includes the debut of a new original worship song written from this experience: "When I Get Out of the Way" — a Casting Crowns–inspired reminder that grace flows better when we let go.

  • Episode 38 - Prayer and Recovery: The Third Option
    2025/04/30
Episode 38 - Prayer and Recovery: The Third Option

In this heartfelt episode of Pastors in Recovery, Jon gets real about something foundational to recovery but often overlooked—prayer. If we aren’t talking to God, we aren’t truly walking in recovery. Jon shares how prayer isn’t always easy, especially when life gets loud, distractions take over, or doubt creeps in.

Through raw honesty and personal stories—including a powerful moment in traffic and a breakthrough with his granddaughter Auri—Jon reminds us that even when we don’t feel like praying, God still draws near. Sometimes the greatest prayer we can pray is:
“God, I want to want You.”

This episode invites pastors and leaders back to that sacred space—not just of speaking, but of listening, waiting, and reconnecting with the only One who truly heals.

🛑 Are you feeling spiritually dry?
🛣️ Are you stuck in the cycle of medicating pain?
🙏 Do you just need a spark to get back into prayer? Then this one is for you.

This is a story about control, surrender, and discovering grace in the most unexpected places.
