Alright, here’s the thing that drives me absolutely nuts about politics, especially around election time: people lose their damn minds! It’s like something takes over, and all of a sudden, someone’s political stance makes them fair game for attacks, insults, and disrespect. I don’t care if you’re left, right, center, upside-down—it’s like we’re all just itching to get angry at each other instead of listening. And it’s insane!
When did politics become this license to treat people like garbage? It’s not supposed to be this tribal warfare where everyone’s just trying to one-up each other with "my team’s better than yours" BS. We’re talking about opinions, beliefs, viewpoints—things that naturally evolve over time. But somehow, people just grab onto their opinion and act like it’s their whole personality, their whole identity, and anyone who thinks differently? They’re suddenly the enemy. It’s ridiculous.
Here’s what really matters: *character*. At the end of the day, no one’s gonna remember your hot takes on tax policy or healthcare or whatever political firestorm is trending. What they’ll remember is how you treated them. Whether you listened. Whether you showed respect. And if you’re throwing all that out the window just to score points in some political argument? What does that say about you?
This is what blows my mind. People get so hung up on defending their side, on being right, that they forget to be decent. Forget that we’re all on this planet together, dealing with the same stuff. Just because you disagree doesn’t mean you have to tear each other apart! That’s lazy. It’s easy to label someone as “the other” and get fired up about why they’re wrong. It’s harder to listen, to find common ground, to realize that underneath the politics, we’re all just people trying to get through life.
The truth is, character—how you treat people, how you show up, how you handle yourself when things get tough—that’s worth way more than any political opinion. Because your opinions? They’ll change. That’s part of growing, of evolving. But your character? That’s who you are. That’s what people remember. So, are you really willing to throw that out over politics? Over a temporary disagreement?
Bottom line, I don’t care if you’re a conservative, liberal, whatever—just remember we’re all human. Show up with some respect, listen more than you talk, and for the love of everything, stop treating people like they’re less than human just because you disagree. We can do better. We *have* to do better.
