    2024/11/13
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the breaking news that the USC football program was put on a one year probation and fined $50,000 by the NCAA for illegal coaching by some analysts during 2022 and 2023. The guys talk about this slap on the wrist from everyone's least favorite institution and if these penalties actually mean anything for Lincoln Riley and his Trojan football program. During the live version of the show, news broke that 2025 4-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe had flipped his commitment from USC to Miami. In real time Ryan and Connor give their thoughts on this bad turn of events for USC football recruiting, including how Lowe talked to Connor after his game on Friday and reaffirmed his commitment to be a Trojan. They also discuss the Trojans pulling the trigger on alternate uniforms heading into the Nebraska game, throwing back to the 1972 unis from the John McKay era. Speaking of Nebraska, both USC and the Huskers are desperate for a win so Connor and Ryan talk about what the Trojans can expect to see on Saturday afternoon in this Big Ten Coliseum clash. • Triple-Double Podcast: Assistant Anthony Ruta joins the show after USC men & women basketball teams start 2-0
    2024/11/12
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the 2-0 starts of the USC men's and women's basketball programs and looking forward to the next week of action including a ACC/Big 10 matchup with Cal. Also special guest USC men's assistant head coach Anthony Ruta comes on to discuss the first week of action in the Eric Musselman era. He talks about the positives and negatives of the first two games, discusses the design of schedule building, including what the Trojans were trying to do with their schedule this season, and breaks down how Musselman and his staff try to teach players in a variety of different styles to be able to reach each player better. Shotgun and Connor look at where the men and women's programs stand after the first week of play and preview the upcoming week that will see four games played at the Galen Center between the two programs. The Women of Troy welcome a CSUN squad that is one win away from tying its total from last season when it went 3-27 losing 26 games in a row. They then play a unique afternoon matinee matchup against Santa Clara on Friday. The USC men continue their battle with the state of Texas, facing off against another UT school in UT-Arlington on Wednesday before a strange-to-say ACC-Big Ten matchup against previously familiar foe, California, Sunday evening. However, the Golden Bears, like the Trojans, have a roster that is completely revamped from last season with transfers from all over the country, including Stanford, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Grand Canyon and others. • Helium Boys: Playcalling woes in Washington, Jayden Maiava time and Shotgun invades Paris
    2024/11/08
Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down another disappointing USC loss, this time with a slightly different script but with all the familiar elements as the Trojans held a fourth-quarter lead on the road only to relinquish the lead and not be able to find the end zone for the game-winning score. They also look forward, giving their thoughts on what to expect following Lincoln Riley's decision to bench Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the anniversary of a classic Helium Boys road trip as well as the Women of Troy getting a gutsy season-opening victory in the Aflec Oui-Play event in Paris. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to tell an epic story of trying to find food after the conclusion of the USC-Washington game. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Zachariah Branch had one of his best games this season while young pass rushers Sam Greene and Kameryn Fountain continue to earn more opportunities. Maiava's stock is obviously on the rise as he takes over the reins of the USC offense and the Trojans' run game, when given a chance, continues to excel recently. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw some weak points at right tackle as well as one of their cornerback spots. Those and Riley's playcalling are focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing young players that could become starters next season and USC women's basketball's dramatic win in Paris. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and what stood out from Shotgun's trip to Paris. 2024/11/06
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the breaking news that USC head coach Lincoln Riley has made a move a quarterback, naming UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava the starter heading into the Nebraska game. On Monday night Connor broke the news that Miller Moss was being replaced by Maiava and on Tuesday several other reporters confirmed his report. Then after practice on Tuesday Riley made it official, saying that starting Maiava was the best thing for the team. The guys talk about this major move heading into the bye week, why they think Riley pulled the trigger and how this can impact the team for the final three regular season games including the two rivalry matchups. They also take a look back at the Washington loss that now puts USC in a tough position sitting at 4-5. After the LSU win the goal shifted to making the College Football Playoff. • Tunnel Vision: After USC falls to Washington for loss No. 5, 2024 is officially a wasted season
    2024/11/04
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back from Seattle where they will once again discuss everything that made the road trip a nightmare for the Trojan football team and their fans. After the 26-21 loss to Washington, USC falls to 4-5 on the season, 0-4 on the road and has lost four of its last five games heading into the bye week. Head coach Lincoln Riley has as many losses (10) in his last 16 games at USC than he had in his entire Oklahoma career (55-10). After the game Riley continued with his message that the team is doing a lot of great things and they are simply one play away from turning a loss into a victory. While that is technically true, the common dominator is that being close to winning isn't good enough, especially when the schedule was favorable and some of those losses shouldn't have been close enough to go either way. The guys talk about what they saw and heard up in Seattle and try to make sense of this team fighting for bowl eligibility instead of a berth in the expanded College Football Playoffs. What is left for USC to play for? Wins over Nebraska plus rivals UCLA and Notre Dame would be nice, but it wouldn't erase another (at least) five-loss season in year three of Riley's tenure. This campaign started with great promise after beating LSU in Las Vegas, but four losses in the last five weeks officially makes USC football 2024 another wasted season. • USC Triple-Double: Previewing the 2024-25 USC men's and women's hoops season & special interview with Beth Burns
    2024/11/02
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) previewing the upcoming season for the USC men's and women's basketball teams with the Women of Troy a national championship contender and the men's team coming off an exhibition win over a top 10 Gonzaga team. But first, a special guest joins the show as USC women’s associate head coach Beth Burns comes on to discuss what she expects this season after the Trojans revamped the roster with the additions of the No. 1 transfer in the nation, Kiki Iriafen, and fellow Pac-12 transfer Talia von Oelhoffen along with the No. 1 high school recruiting class in the nation, led by Etiwanda (Calif.) guard Kennedy Smith. Burns also talks about how different preparation was leading into this season with the addition of seven freshmen compared to last year having three Ivy League graduate transfers that already had a ton of collegiate experience. Shotgun and Connor then break down the Women of Troy seeking a trip to their first Final Four since 1986 along with a completely new USC men's roster with 13 incoming transfers/freshmen under new head coach Eric Musselman. The podcasting duo give three things they are looking forward to from both squads and two things they still have concerns about as the season is about to begin. They also look forward to Monday's upcoming season openers with the Women of Troy playing in the Aflac Oui-Play event in Paris, France against No. 20 Ole Miss while the men will host SoCon contender Chattanooga at the Galen Center in Musselman's USC debut.
