In this episode of the Perpetual Ascent Podcast, Andrew reflects on the first time he fell in love, using that experience to explore a deeper idea: How can we approach being single from a position of strength? We’ll discuss how embracing this mindset can help us build a healthier, more holistic relationship when the time comes. Are we ready to love, and can being single be the perfect preparation?

As French philosopher Joseph de Maistre once stated, "We get the government we deserve." This musing can be confronting, especially with the U.S. presidential election just days away. Andrew takes a 'surf' of the 'societal hypnosis' that defines contemporary society, exploring how the rise of figures like Donald Trump in politics is unsurprising in a world where the collective intelligence quotient (CIQ) fails to acknowledge that such realities 'filter up' from the grassroots. This is influenced by what the CIQ is willing to accept and by the mentality and egoism that individuals and the CIQ obsessively protect—regardless of where they stand on the political spectrum—all too often at the expense of a healthier counter-narrative. As American writer and artist David Foster Wallace eloquently said, "Everything is bleeding into everything else." Andrew appeals to his audience to reflect on what they can do in their own lives to nurture this much-needed counter-narrative.

In this inaugural episode, Andrew takes the opportunity to introduce the core premises for the launch of the Perpetual Ascent Podcast, including the fact that the podcast has been created to uphold that we should not be afraid to use our voices to "be the change we wish to see" in relation to our own lives and society. In the context of the challenges that contemporary society is facing, Andrew is keen to point out that, while "Perpetual Ascent" was initially conceived as the title for the semi-autobiographical philosophy book he has been working on since 2018 (from which a podcast would likely follow), over recent weeks he has felt a compulsion for the podcast to be released into society without further delay. Andrew outlines a number of factors as to why he feels that his specific context and philosophical lens promote a range of valuable conversations that others may not have, and that may be confronting for some. However, all Perpetual Ascent Podcast episodes have at their heart a goal of personal and societal empowerment, whether you are on a faith-based journey or a secular one.
