  • Grit & Joy: Help For Bewildered Families of Teens – Dave Rahn
    2025/05/21

We want our kids to have a deep authentic relationship with Creator of the Universe. How do we get there? How do we get the Jesus we so love to be the Jesus they so love?

Dave Rahn, co-author of Grit & Joy: Help For Bewildered Families of Teens joins us with insights from decades of experience co-mingling with Youth for Christ and as a professor at Huntington University to speak into helping our young people come alive to Jesus.

We talk about moving from getting our kids to be good kids, to getting them into a relationship with the God who loves them; what we can do as parent to create and on-ramp for our kids to experience the living God.

Also, is there a place in our kids’ faith for grit? If so, what does that look like? How can we see our teenagers be transformed by God’s love now. And Dave shares how modeling a vibrant loving relationship with God, full of honesty and vulnerability, creates a path into Jesus for our kids.

    Also in this podcast:

Change is hard. Shawna and Perry share a massive change that’s happening for them and how that will affect you, if you love this podcast.

And last, Perry shares what he learned at Mamertine Prison in Rome where Paul likely spent his last days before he was beheaded for his faith. It was like Paul was saying to Perry, “Join me here!”

  • It’s So Hard to Trust God’s Timing
    2025/05/21

When we have unfulfilled longings it’s hard to trust God for His timing. But even with all our questions and heartache we’re reminded in scripture that we can trust that God’s timing is perfect!

Perry and his bride Teresa were just on their 40th anniversary trip to Italy and Ireland. And on a sunshiny morning in St. Peter’s Square in Rome they met Jorge. Jorge asked Perry to take his picture with St. Peter’s Basilica in the background. Then Perry’s asked Jorge, “What does Jesus mean to you?” It was a stunning God moment.

Shawna’s pet peeve is being interrupted. But there was one time she was grateful for it. God interrupted her freak out with a message of correction and love.

Perry had gone in to get some blood work. Get in, get out, move on with the day. But then there was this really troubled woman in the hospital lobby. He’d gotten his blood work and had left the hospital when the Holy Spirit said, “Go back and see if you can help this woman.”

Our love for God leads us to surrender. Shawna has a situation in her life that she cannot control, no matter how hard she tries. So she: 1) freaked out, 2) got mad, and 3) told God the truth—that she was scared. He met her in unexpected ways in her honesty, and it led her to love Him even more, and ultimately, to surrender.

  • Untriggered: Transformation for Mom’s Who Struggle With Anger - Amber Lia
    2025/05/19

Are you weary and frustrated with your kids…with yourself?

In a moment of anger, Amber was yelling at her kids when she realized the neighbor had come over to drop something off. “Oh no! Did she hear my outburst?” she wondered. That was the moment she knew she needed to address the anger that often undermined her mothering.

Amber Lia is a best-selling author. Her newest book is the devotional - Untriggered: 60 Days of Transformation for Moms Who Struggle with Anger.

In an honest conversation with Perry & Shawna about the moments as parents that we didn’t reflect the character of God to our children, Amber shares real life ways we can find our way back to living out the fruit of the Spirit in our homes, with our kids.

Perry was at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland on his trip of a lifetime with his bride. He went off the official trail and was yelled at by a park worker. He was offended and treated the worker unkindly. That’s when the Holy Spirit said, “Go back and apologize.”

Sometimes Shawna feels like God’s not doing His job. She believes that God should fix her problems. Instead of asking, “God, what are you doing?” she’s learning to ask, “God what are you doing in me?” and to trust His grace is enough.

  • “Sometimes I Doubt God’s Promises” – Perry
    2025/05/16

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.” (2 Cor. 1:20)

Bible scholar Dr. Jeremy Grinnell joins the team to take on Bible questions.

Sometimes Perry doubts God’s promises. But he’s growing in trust because the passage above is starting to sink in! Every promise of God will be fulfilled and every promise is ultimately pointing to one staggering truth. And Jeremy unpacks it!

Then Stephanie asks: “In John 16:7 Jesus said, ‘but in fact, it is best for you if I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come.’ Why did Jesus have to leave in order for the Holy Spirit to come? Why couldn't they both be on earth?” How could it possibly be better for Jesus to leave?

Next, Todd’s question: “What's your position on ‘Once saved always saved?’ “ And last Perry is fresh off his trip with his bride to Ireland. At the Cliffs of Moher he was reprimanded by a park worker. He was rude to her and then the Holy Spirit said, “Go back and apologize!?” A conversation about the power of kindness.

  • Strong and Secure – Michelle Nietert
    2025/05/13

What launches us into life strong and secure? Knowing the Father heart of God – His protection, healing, peace, provision, and presence.

Christian counselor, speaker, and author, Michelle Nietert, coauthor with Lynn Cowell of Strong and Secure: 100 Devotions for Young Women says, “We believe that God desires a deep and intimate relationship with each of us”.

Leaving what is familiar to step into the unknown can be exciting and scary at the same time. In order to fully swing into the new, we need to let go of what was. As we do we can fix our eyes and God trusting that He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

  • I Feel Like God Has Abandoned Me
    2025/05/12

Shawna’s daughter remembers being left at Costco, but Shawna remembers it differently. Shawna admits there have been times she felt God had abandoned her. But God remembers it differently. He didn’t leave. He never does. God is with you. You were created for a relationship with Him by Him! He’s not going to leave you.

Listener, Dawn, calls in to share when she lost her grandson God pressed deeper into her heart how he made us for relationship with Him. And that He was with her just as He was with her grandson.

What are you learning about obedience? As Shawna watched her daughter’s Australian Shepherd obey as slowly as a dog possibly could she saw herself in him. There are times when her obedience to God has been soooooo slow it was hardly recognizable that she was moving at all.

Listener, Jess, shares how her obedience led to greater surrender which is leading her to into her God-given destiny. Through obedience and surrender she is doing things she never thought she would – things God had planned for her before she even took her first breath!
