  • The Story of QUANTUM MECHANICS with Dr. Pete Evans
    2022/11/05

Once upon a time, there was Quantum Mechanics. And no one understood it. We still don't, really... It's near-impossible to get to grips with this stuff, but that doesn't stop physicists from trying. So this week, we're going to join them in their attempt to comprehend the incomprehensible. Or at least wallow around in some gentle confusion for a bit. I thought it'd be the perfect way to end.

In Episode 6 of Physics for Phiish, Dr. Pete Evans tells us the Story of Quantum Mechanics: what it is, where it came from, and whether we really live in a multiverse.

  • DARK ENERGY with Dr. Scott Melville
    2022/10/24

Can you see it? No. Can you touch it? No. Does it make up most of the universe? Yes? Then it might be Dark Energy! I'm Lizzy Mansfield, a blob of matter seeking other matters to get excited about. And this week's matter is dark... very dark. Dark Matter. In Episode 5 of Physics for Phiish, I ask Dr. Scott Melville about the Universe's weirdest thing... that might not even be a thing at all.

If you have questions about anything in this podcast, email them to physics4phiish@gmail.com or tweet me at @MansfieldLizzy. Or just yell your questions into the abyss (I will not answer them).

  • THERMODYNAMICS with Dr. Katie Robertson
    2022/10/01

Thermodynamics. What even is that? You're in the right corner of the universe to find out. I'm Lizzy Mansfield, a clothes-wearing particle cluster, on a mission to feed my curiosity with fundamental physics. And sometimes plant food. This week on Physics for Phiish, I chat to Dr. Katie Robertson about all things THERMO and DYNAMICAL. Why won't my bedroom tidy itself? And what's the temperature of a black hole?

If you have questions about anything in this podcast, email them to physics4phiish@gmail.com or tweet me at @MansfieldLizzy. You really should. I'll get lonely otherwise.

  • BIG THINGS AND SMALL THINGS with Nabil Iqbal
    2022/09/13

Some things are BIG. Some things are small. All things are physics! My name's Lizzy Mansfield, I'm a small-to-medium sized shrimpy creature with a brain inside it. I love being confused by mind-blowing physics and I hope you do too. In this week's episode of Physics for Phiish I talk to Nabil Iqbal about trying to make the big things and the small things play well together. Find out if our atoms can tunnel from Newcastle to London, whether a black hole is actually an elephant, and what string theory has to do with string.

  • HOW DID THE UNIVERSE BEGIN with Dr. Katy Clough
    2022/08/07

Bleep-bleep! That's how to say "Hello" in robot... if you've programmed your robot correctly. My name's Lizzy Mansfield, I'm a human-shaped brain-yoghurt who lives at the back of a planet-sized fridge called 'Earth'. I'm on a mission to make Physics accessible to everyone, whether you're a sentient multi-galactic bookcase, a single dot who doesn't understand anything or something in between.

In Episode 2 of Physics for Phiish I travel back to the big bang with Dr. Katy Clough to find out how it all started. What's the universe expanding into? How can time be curved?

  • TIME with Dr. Tushar Menon
    2022/07/26

Well hello there! Greetings from the International No-Space Station (my bedroom). My name's Lizzy Mansfield, I'm a carbon-based lifeform and physics enthusiast currently resident on a wee small planet called 'Earth'. I'm on a mission to make Physics accessible to everyone, whether you're a multi-dimensional space worm, a hyper-plankton, or any other species that does (or doesn't) exist.

In the first ever Physics for Phiish podcast, I talk about TIME with Dr. Tushar Menon, a Philosopher of Physics from the University of Cambridge. That's a place on Earth, full of brains.

If you have questions about anything in this podcast, email them to physics4phiish@gmail.com or tweet me at @MansfieldLizzy and you can be part of the show.
