  • Learning To...Be Amazed
    2024/04/01

"Learning To... " is led by Pastor Carolyn Hetrick and Pastor Scott Schul of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA. Each week features breath prayer, a passage from scripture, music and reflection before sending you out with grace. Today we are "Learning to Be Amazed" as we join the women who show up at the tomb of Jesus expecting to grieve but are met with astounding news- Christ is Risen! Have you ver heard something that seemed too big to take in even when it was good news? Or maybe a burden was rolled away and it seems too good to be true. Or maybe like Peter there is a place where you wish you could have a "re-do." Wherever you have been or hope to be amazed, Jesus' story with us continues. Let's keep learning and rejoicing together!
Our in person Bible study at Grace resumes on APRIL 3RD and stay tuned for another podcast series in the fall for Advent.

    Today's Scripture: Mark 16:1-8
    Today's Music:

  • Learning to... Give Ourselves Away- A Lenten Podcast
    2024/03/25

"Learning To... " is led by Pastor Carolyn Hetrick and Pastor Scott Schul of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA. Each week features breath prayer, a passage from scripture, music and reflection before sending you out with grace. Today we are "Learning to Give Ourselves Away." The woman in Bethany honored Jesus by anointing him. It demonstrated she really knew who Jesus was. She gave everything she had to him- including her heart. How is Jesus helping you give yourself away?

    Today's scripture: Mark 14:1-9
Today's music: "It is Well With My Soul"- Flutist Judy Nishimura's peaceful arrangement of this beloved tune, © 2020 ALRY Publications, is recorded and used with permission from ALRY Publications LLC, www.alrypublications.com, a partner of United Media & Music Partners.
"What Wondrous Love is This"- Judy Nishimura's peaceful arrangement of this beloved Southern Harmony tune (1835), What Wondrous Love Is This, was recorded by Laurel Sanders, flutist, with permission of ALRY Publications (www.alrypublications.com)

  • Learning to...See- A Lenten Podcast
    2024/03/18

"Learning To... " is led by Pastor Carolyn Hetrick and Pastor Scott Schul of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA. Each week features breath prayer, a passage from scripture, music and reflection before sending you out with grace. Today we are "Learning to See." We are not given the gospel, God’s good news, as a way to avoid mortality or loss. Jesus is predicting his own death, which is overwhelming to consider, but Jesus also challenges us to ask: Are there ways we love our life so much we fail to see the harm it does to others? Are there ways in which we should let our way “die” so something new can come to life? Where do we need to see Jesus?

    Today's scripture: John 12:20-26
    Today's music:
"Air Andante," a public domain 'air' part of a Baroque-era collection called "Select Aires or Duets for 2 German Flutes and a German Flute and Bass by Handel and other authors," published during their lifetime by John Walsh. www.imslp.org. Laurel Sanders, flute.
"Moonlight Sonata," public domain by Ludwig van Beethoven. Laura Pauley, piano.

  • Learning To...Love- A Lenten Podcast
    2024/03/11

"Learning To... " is led by Pastor Carolyn Hetrick and Pastor Scott Schul of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA. Each week features breath prayer, a passage from scripture, music and reflection before sending you out with grace. Today we are "Learning to Love." Nicodemus was one of the religious leaders of his day. At this point in his story, he wasn’t a follower of Jesus – that would’ve been a very risky thing for him to do. And so under cover of night he came to visit Jesus and asked questions that probed at the scope and depth of God’s love. Listen to how Jesus responded with love.
    Today's scripture: John 3:14-21
Today's music: Public domain version of the second movement (Adagio) of C.P.E. Bach's Sonata in a minor for solo flute, available from IMSLP at www.imslp.org. Laurel Sanders, flute.

  • Learning To...Focus A Lenten Podcast
    2024/03/04

"Learning To... " is led by Pastor Carolyn Hetrick and Pastor Scott Schul of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA. Each week features breath prayer, a passage from scripture, music and reflection before sending you out with grace. Today we are "Learning to Focus." Jesus is telling people their way of living has lost focus. We too have ways we need God to restore us, but change is hard even when we know we need it. Even in these times, we can count on Jesus to cts out of mercy for our world.
    Today's scripture: John 2:13-22
    Today's music:
"O, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus" (Thomas J. Williams; arr. Molly Ijames). Copyright © 2018 Beckenhorst Press, Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission. Recorded by Laurel Sanders, flute and Cynthia Mills, piano.
"What Wondrous Love Is This" (Appalachian; setting by John Carter). Copyright © 2011 Beckenhorst Press, Inc. All rights reserved. Recorded and used with permission from the publisher, Beckenhorst Press, Inc. Laurel Sanders, flute; Cynthia Mills, piano

  • Learning To...Rethink A Lenten Podcast
    2024/02/26

"Learning To... " is led by Pastor Carolyn Hetrick and Pastor Scott Schul of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA. Each week features breath prayer, a passage from scripture, music and reflection before sending you out with grace. Today we are "Learning to Rethink." Jesus tells his followers that everything they thought was wrong. He will face rejection and they will face struggles too. The savior we receive is hardly like popular figures in our world. Can we rethink who Jesus is and what it means to follow even when the changes we face are hard, unpopular or inconvenient? We know that love carries Jesus into our midst in these times.
    Today's scripture: Mark 8:31-38
    Today's music:
"Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence," (arr. Judy Nishimura) Copyright © 2019, ALRY Publications, LLC. Available at www.alrypublications.com. Used with permission from the publisher. Recorded by Laurel Sanders, flute.
O, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus (Thomas J. Williams; arr. Molly Ijames). Copyright © 2018 Beckenhorst Press, Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission. Recorded by Laurel Sanders, flute and Cynthia Mills, piano.
