  • ES 134 | Extra Shot | Matt Frizzell: Open Letter to Community of Christ, USA
    2025/04/08

Many look to their faith for direction and answers to things happening in the world while others suggest that the church should stick to theology and spirituality. The reality is that churches are speaking up about justice issues facing the world and especially in the United States, but where is Community of Christ’ voice in all of this? There are people who wonder why Community of Christ seems silent in the midst of injustices being experienced by so many. In this Extra Shot episode, which is a cross-post from a personal posting of Matt Frizzell, Matt makes it clear that the church has spoken. As a matter of fact, we the church, have been speaking for decades through legislation and conference action. The only thing left to wonder is when we will use the words, witness, and vision of our prophetic voice to stand against the injustices whose existence we have long acknowledged as a people.

Find a summary list of resolutions mentioned by Matt with his video posting, here.

  • 827 | Coffee to Go | Fifth Sunday of Lent | Year C
    2025/04/06

Can you smell that? When Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with pure nard, the scriptures tell us that “the room was filled with the smell of the perfume. Mary spared nothing to do what she thought was right in the moment... to take a prophetic risk. On this final week of Lent, hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith explore the significance of Mary anointing Jesus' feet with costly perfume, highlighting the sensory experience and the intimacy of the act. Grab some perfume or a fragrant bar of soap and join in on Mary’s prophetic trip down sensory lane.

  • A46 | Awaken to God's Presence | Breath Prayer
    2025/04/01

Slowing down and connecting with God can be as simple as paying attention to the rhythm of our breath. Join host, Shannon McAdam, as she leads us through a spiritual practice known as a breath prayer. It’s not complicated unless you make it complicated. It’s personal. You set the parameters and make it your own. Take your time. Rest... and breathe.

This breath prayer is taken from Jane Vennard’s book, Praying with Body and Soul, (Fortress Press, 1998).

  • 825 | Coffee to Go | 4th Sunday After Lent | Year C
    2025/03/30

Choose joy! It may be hard sometimes, but the alternative will just tear you down. In this episode of Coffee to Go, hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith take a look at the story of the Prodigal Son from the Gospel of Luke. While the young man was ready to receive what he deserved... nothing ... the father was more focused on the joy of his return. That’s how God feels when we “return home.” For some of us, it’s probably good we don’t get what we really deserve. Instead, we get welcomed with open arms and pure joy.

  • 824 | Say What?! | 2025 World Conference Resolutions | G-8 and G-9
    2025/03/28

There is a lot of history and context, both inside and outside the church, that accompanies the sections in Community of Christ’s Doctrine and Covenants. Over the years, some of the sections have been removed due to a lack of alignment with Community of Christ identity, message, mission, and beliefs. Other sections have been questioned because of the language used at the time of writing. Guests, Paul DeBarthe and David Hall share with Mary Anne and Kassie why they feel it is so important to consider a Bicentennial edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (G-8) that fills the gaps left for those who wish to study its message by providing background narratives. They also lift up their sense of call to gather materials across time and faith traditions that capture Divine guidance to humanity and put them in a resource that would benefit all (G-9).

  • 823 | Say What?! | 2025 World Conference Resolutions | G-6 and G-7
    2025/03/25

Two of the resolutions submitted for the 2025 World Conference come from the Cedar Valley-Nauvoo Mission Center. Say What hosts, Mary Anne and Kassie, sit down with the mission center leaders, Evelyn Dustin and Kent Levan, to get a better idea of what their resolutions are asking for and why it is important for the church at large to consider what is at stake. Behind these resolutions lay stories of long-term devotion and commitment, a perception of miscommunication and mistrust, and a deep sense of loss following the sale of beloved historic sites.

  • 822 | Coffee to Go | Third Sunday of Lent | Year C
    2025/03/23

You can almost hear the kids saying, “Are we there yet?” And the answer is NO! We are still on the road to Jerusalem with Jesus, and Jesus is still encountering people asking questions to which he has already given answers. And yet, he tells a parable that reinforces just how merciful and patient he is with those who haven’t borne fruit, even though he has shown them the way...God’s way. Join hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith for a conversation about the importance of turning and going “another” way ... a way that is not our own. We are no better or worse than those who have gone before us, and we still have questions. Thank God for the season of Lent... a time to reflect and turn.
