  • Wrapping Up the Fall Season (RG90)
    2021/11/09

It has been a few weeks since our last episode so we thought we’d get together to catch up. In this week’s episode we wrap up our own personal golf seasons and discuss what went well, what didn’t, and what we’re hoping for next year. We also sit down and do a fly-by wrap up of both the PGA and LPGA Tours’ fall events.

Finally, the other big headline that has been dominating golf circles for the past few weeks has been the announcement of Greg Norman as CEO of the newly formed LIV (“Live?” “forty-five” “L-I-V?”) Golf Investments that will be funding a 10-tournament series within the Asian Tour, of which Norman will serve as commissioner. The rival tour is not without controversy as it is fully backed by Saudi investors and aims to lure away some top talent from the PGA and European Tours. We discuss what we know so far (not much) and speculate who may make the jump and discuss some larger implications.

Since our offseason schedule will be a bit more sporadic, make sure you follow us at any/all of the below to make sure you don’t miss out on any new episodes. Also, be sure to subscribe or follow us in your favourite podcast player:

  • USA Wins the Ryder Cup (RG89)
    2021/09/29

After crushing defeat in 2018, Team USA stormed back with a historic 19-9 victory at the Ryder Cup, the most lopsided win of the modern era. In this episode we recap all of the action, discuss not only what went wrong for Team Europe, but what Team USA did so well at Whistling Straights on their way to victory.

There is a lot of hype around this fresh, young core that will likely become the base of Team USA for many years to come. But what will future teams actually look like? Will USA continue to roll out these 12 guys and expect to keep winning? How big of an overhaul is needed for Europe? We get into some standouts and disappointments for each side and predict who we may be seeing again in Rome when the Cup is once again up for grabs in 2023.

  • Ryder Cup Preview (RG88)
    2021/09/21

Hot off the heels of a great Solheim Cup earlier this month, it is time for another one of the most exciting events in golf - the Ryder Cup! This week we’ll watch as the teams from the United States and Europe square off at the renowned Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Team USA suffered a crushing defeat the last time the event was played in 2018, falling 17.5-10.5 to the Europeans. They are coming out this time with a fresh, younger looking team that features 7 out of the top 10 golfers in the world as they look to return the favour. Meanwhile, team Europe will feature the current best player on the planet, Jon Rahm, as well as matchplay legends including Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia. Though they’ll enter the week as underdogs, they have relished in this position historically.

The Ryder Cup kicks off on Friday, with the final singles matches taking place on Sunday, September 26th. Catch all the action this weekend and then check back with us for our recap next week!

  • Solheim Cup Recap & Ryder Cup News (RG87)
    2021/09/09

We’re a day late this week, but that’s a good thing since there is a TON of news to cover!

We kick things off talking all about Team Europe’s surprise upset of Team USA at the Solheim Cup. Europe defended the cup as well as won in the US for the first time since 2013. The team featured standout performances from Matilda Castren, superstar in the making Leona Macguire, and the clutch Emily Kristine Pedersen, who came out victorious in the anchor match with her boyfriend caddying for the opponent.

Another big tournament going on this weekend was the Tour Championship, which was won by Patrick Cantlay. Though we have more than a few qualms with the format of the entire playoffs, this was a great performance by Cantlay and resulted in a very deserving winner.

Now that the Tour season is (finally) behind us, we can shift our attention to the next big event: The Ryder Cup. On Wednesday morning, captain Steve Stricker announced his 6 captain’s picks to round out Team USA. We discuss who is in and who is out as well as the overall makeup of this younger, more exciting roster who will look to avenge their 2018 loss to Team Europe when the tournament kicks off in two weeks at Whistling Straits.

Check back in the coming weeks for more Ryder Cup talk, but until then, keep up with us at:

  • Solheim Cup Preview (RG86)
    2021/08/31

One of the most exciting weeks in golf is upon us - it’s Solheim Cup week! This weekend we will be treated to a matchplay spectacular as Team Europe looks to defend their victory over Team USA in 2019. The teams will travel to the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, for a combination of team and singles matches that make for incredible drama and some must-see moments. This episode we break down the course, the teams, and some potential partners we can expect to see battling it out. We also relive the glory of Suzann Pettersen’s clinching putt in 2019 and set up what’s at stake for both teams.

Before getting into all of that, we also recap Patrick Cantlay’s win at the BMW Championship and set the stage for the final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. John also regales us with his stories from beautiful PEI where he not only spent some time as a tourist, but got to play in the pro-am tournament of the Mackenzie Tour’s PEI Open at Dundarave Golf Course.

  • Tony Finau Back On Top & AIG Women's Open Recap (RG85)
    2021/08/24

The final putt had barely fallen, but we’re here recapping Tony Finau’s big win at the Northern Trust, defeating Cam Smith in the first playoff hole on Monday night. This is Finau’s second PGA Tour victory, his first since the 2016 Puerto Rico Open. With the win, Finau launches into first place in the standings after the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. We also set the stage for who is out and who is in at the BMW Championship as well as who is on the bubble and needs a big week to get into the Tour Championship.

Taking place across the pond, veteran Anna Nordqvist came out on top at the AIG Women’s Open at historic Carnoustie Golf Links, taking home the final major on the 2021 calendar. The win was her 9th career LPGA Tour victory and 3rd major, which also ended her winless drought dating back to the 2017 Evian Championship.

Last big headline of the week, the captains have made their picks and the teams are finalized for the upcoming Solheim Cup. We briefly run through the lineups for both Team USA and Team Europe, but check back next week for the full, in-depth preview of the event, which will take place Sep. 4-6 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

  • Olympic Recap & Winding Down the Super Season (RG83)
    2021/08/11

To a lot of us, the Olympic golf tournaments brought a lot more excitement than anticipated. Though the viewing hours in our part of the world weren’t ideal, there were a few great storylines to follow and stacked podium in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

This episode we begin by recapping all of the action from Tokyo including:

    • Full rundown of the men’s and women’s podiums

    • A Cinderella story more than 3 years in the making for the nation of Slovakia

    • The chaos of a 7-man playoff for bronze

    • Another display of dominance from the best female golfer in the world

    • Potential team scenarios and adjusted leaderboards should the event have went with a different format

As the Olympics wind down, so does the PGA Tour’s regular season. This week’s Wyndahm Championship represents the final opportunity to crack the top 125 and qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs (and the excessive bonus money that comes with it). We spend some time talking about which players are at risk of slipping out of the top 125 as well as a few big names who need big weeks since they’re currently on the outside looking in.
