    Alison has been a social justice activist since she was a teenager. Formally a sexual abuse therapist and child abuse social worker, Alison brings her training and experience to her writing and activism. She founded a ground-breaking and award-winning non-profit for adolescent girls that published Teen Voices magazine. She authored Unwanted Hair and Hirsutism, a Women’s Book. She has served on the boards of many nonprofits that seek to enhance the quality of life for women and girls, ranging from reproductive rights to media and democracy. She contributed to two editions of Our Bodies Ourselves as an editor and authored the section on Unexpected Pregnancies.

    Alison Amoroso holds a Master’s degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she also served on the alumni board of advisors, and a B.S. in psychology from Duke University. A collection of her activism papers is housed at the Duke Special Collections Library, Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History & Culture.
