We begin a series on Baptism as taught in the Book of Mormon. There are many questions today among those who have left the established "churches" that have sprung forth since 1830. Many already having different doctrines and teachings. Man added to the simple doctrine of Christ just as He warned us not to. We want to see what the Book of Mormon teaches. Who has authority to baptize? When should we be baptized? Is there anyone today that has "authority" to do so? What does authority mean?
When Jesus came to America He established His doctrine. It is interesting that he told the more righteous that were preserved during the destruction and three days of darkness to stop contending over his doctrine. This means that it wasn't just the ones that were "right" that were preserved. They were however the ones that showed charity towards those that were destroyed. This is a clue we believe into the hearts of men and what is required. Jesus discussed baptism and how it should be done to do away with their contentions. He also shared His doctrine and told all to not add to it. Unfortunately men have not listened. What does the Book of Mormon say?

Is there one true church? The LDS and RLDS would say yes. As would the Catholic Church. But what does Jesus say? He says a lot in the Book of Mormon about 2 churches. We look at the KJV of the bible, Isaiah and the Book of Mormon, and how the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Book of Mormon add to missing pieces of the bible, specifically Isaiah, that was previously thought of as the standard. We also take an honest look at why the bible is held up so highly as the in errant word of God when we are finding more and more evidence that there are more complete documents that add portions to the bible and help with understanding, by completing Hebrew parallelisms.

The problem is that mormonism is not found in the Book of Mormon as practiced. There is one version of the vision in the grove in Joseph Smith's own handwriting. It is not the story we have been told in our church history and traditions. The handwritten account by Joseph Smith himself was cut out and removed from his journal book, hidden in a safe for years, kept from the people. But why? Perhaps because it changes the very nature of "Who is Jesus" to agree with the Book of Mormon and not our own church traditions regarding the nature of God. This also effects our traditions of teaching on the afterlife and different glories in heaven.
