Everyone has weird random thoughts that come from the spirit world. Medicine and psychology will try and explain these thoughts away as just coming from your soul. They actually deny the existence of the spirit or unseen realm. God is always speaking to us, but the devil speaks to us too. The devil spoke to and brought temptation to Jesus. He most certainly will with us. The devil will try to mask his voice using various tactics. He is an imposter.
He comes as an angel of light. This means he will even mask himself as God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit or even an angel sent from God. So John tells us to test the spirits.
And the way that we test them is by seeing if what they say aligns with the incarnation, that is Jesus coming in the flesh. We can also test these thoughts, feelings, visions, emotions (voices) through the good news of Jesus Christ. Paul said even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel different than the one you received, let it be accursed.
The first way to discern the voice of God v. The enemy is though an intimate relationship with Jesus.
My sheep here my voice
'My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. '
(John 10:27-28)
-Fruits of the Spirit
-Two trees, law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus or the law of sin and death.
Obedience comes through trust and intimacy. Prudence allows us to wait on the Lord. God will make his voice clear. God speaks though gentle invitations. The devil speaks though pricking and prodding, though carrots and sticks. The devil speaks though fear.
Even if we are goaded and fall for a trap, God delivers us from the trap of the fowler. There is so much grace to learn to discern the voice of God. Look at how God blessed Abraham, and even blessed all involved with Ishmael.
