Key Verse: Mark 13:35-37

35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows,[c] or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.

Main Points

• We don’t know when Jesus will come back so we must be ready at all times. Our lives should be focused on staying faithful to Jesus until that day and helping others prepare for that day. Jesus promises eternal life for those who stay ready and faithful even in the midst of hard times.

Many Christians today struggle with living balanced Christian lives. How do we live out our daily lives while still anticipating Christ’s return? This challenge isn’t new to our generation. In fact, the apostle Paul addressed similar struggles with those in the early church in 1st and 2nd Thessalonians.

Finding balance between living for today and anticipating Christ’s return isn’t always easy. However, by following Paul’s practical guidance, we can live meaningful and balanced Christian lives that honor God while staying ready for Christ’s return.

Remember that God has eternal plans for you. He hasn’t forgotten or left you behind. Continue in your daily work, love others actively, and maintain your spiritual disciplines. This balanced approach honors God and prepares us for Christ’s return.

Key Point
Followers of the Lamb must act as faithful witnesses, confronting evil by boldly sharing their testimony about Jesus. They might have to give up their lives for this cause. Yet, the greatest reward awaits us when He returns, and we'll sing about victory in Jesus.

More than anything else the Lamb wants people to love God and love each other. Some refuse to do so by:

• Rejecting God or having a hard heart towards him
• Committing idolatry by putting things in the place of God
• Persecuting followers of the Lamb
• Powerful people oppressing weaker people
• Those who are blessed who don't help the poor
• Religious leaders who help themselves but lead people astray
• Putting barriers between God and people

Because of these things, the Lamb opened the 7th seal of the scroll to initiate events that bring about God’s judgement on those who refuse to love God and love people.

In Chapter 6 the people of the earth all asked a question about who can stand when the wrath of the God and the Lamb comes. The answer is in chapter 7 when we are told that those who follow the Lamb will be able to stand in his presence and receive his spiritual protection.
