People who choose the courage of their conviction and decide to do something about it..." Loki Mulholland
#Changemaker and #Activist Loki Mulholland, an award-winning filmmaker, author, civil right activist, diversity equity and inclusion expert and the son of Civil Rights legend Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. Loki has won multiple film festival awards, Best of State, and the Filmed in Utah Award. In addition, he has received over thirty Telly Awards for his various work in commercial and industrial films.
His first book, She Stood for Freedom, is an illustrated children’s book about the life of his mother. His award-winning film, An Ordinary Hero, is also about his mother. Loki has spoken extensively about the Civil Rights Movement and current race relations.
In this conversation, Loki shares his story and the story of his mum Joan Trumpauer, an American civil rights activist who was active in the 1960s. She was one of the Freedom Riders who was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi in 1961 and was confined for two months in the Maximum Security Unit of the Mississippi State Penitentiary. The following year she was the first white student to enrol at Tougaloo College (A black College) in Jackson, Mississippi and served as the local secretary of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She later worked as a teacher, and she established the Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation after her retirement. The foundation is dedicated to educating youth about the Civil Rights Movement and how to become activists in their communities.
“Be part of the solution as my mum is a powerful representation of that…”
