  • Explain it in (W)NBA Terms
    2023/08/01

You know when you hear about a sport, game, or league that you just don't follow super closely, but you want the proper context of what it all means? Explain it in NBA Terms! This episode takes the social media bit to the next level, as Greg Silver attempts to give each of the 12 teams in the WNBA their best NBA comparison. Of course, the WNBA has very much its own identity, as is the case with the NHL, MLB, and major tournaments in tennis or golf. Some comparisons were easier to find than others. As we enter the final few weeks of this dry period in sports, this episode will provide a little creativity, entertainment, and spice here on Bleav.

    2023/06/20

Sign the petition! WNBA Oakland Twitter! WNBA Oakland Website!

On the 50th episode of SFTS, Greg has the privilege of hosting three important figures who are looking to bring an expansion team to Oakland, CA. Sara Brande, Joanie Lohman, and Alexis Gray-Lawson all connected just a couple of years ago, but together they are at the forefront of a movement to bring the W to a city that's starving for a team.

Brande learned the power of online community while back in Boston, and after shortly after moving to Oakland in 2021, they connected with longtime Bay Area resident and women's basketball fan Joanie Lohman. Together, they met Gray-Lawson, an Oakland native who helped turn the University of California into a national powerhouse before ultimately playing in the WNBA. This episode dives into their united efforts to bring an expansion team to Oakland, why it should be Oakland as opposed to other cities in the Bay Area, the growth of women's basketball and it's impact on young women, and how they will continue to spread their message.

To sign their petition, which is hoping to reach 20,000 signatures, please click the link at the top of the episode description. • Oakland Shows Up For Reverse Boycott, Nuggets and Golden Knights Get Their First Championships, Cavinder Twins Controversy, Ja Morant, and More!
    2023/06/14

Oakland fans gave the A's a night to remember and vice versa, as 27,759 faces showed up for the reverse boycott game Tuesday night, in which the A's (19-50, now 7 straight wins), defeated the league-best Tampa Bay Rays (48-22) by a score of 2-1. Hey John Fisher, have you thought about selling the team? Greg gives love to Oakland before pivoting to congratulate the Denver Nuggets and Las Vegas Golden Knights, who both got to celebrate their first championships in program history.

The NBA off-season means Ja Morant's suspension should be announced shortly and focus will turn to the WNBA, as #1 overall pick Aliyah Boston is already playing at an All-Star level. Greg shares what we can learn from this past NBA season and how it applies to the future of the WNBA.

Lastly, Greg discusses the recent controversy surrounding the Cavinder twins, Hanna and Haley, who claimed to be misled about the focus of an article published about them, titled "The NCAA Has a 'Hot Girl' Problem" written by Ethan Strauss of The Free Press. What does this case show us about the new age of media and college athletes profiting from their name, image, and likeness, and where did Strauss make his mistakes? We'll break it all down for you here.

  • Heat vs Nuggets is Set + Miami Officially Survives the Ultimate Roller Coaster
    2023/05/31

The past two weeks have been cause for plenty of screaming, be it from the sidelines, an office desk, the popular local sports bar, or your childhood bedroom. After the Miami Heat led the Eastern Conference Finals a commanding 3 games to none, the Boston Celtics responded with three of their own, including a Derrick buzzer beater with just 0.1 seconds left on the clock to force a Game 7. However, it was the Heat who regained control with a commanding 103-84 victory in Boston on Monday, and they've become just the second 8-seed in NBA history to reach the NBA Finals, where they'll face 2x MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Anthony DiNardo is one of the many Heat fans who experienced the full range of emotions in this series, and as the host of the Bleav in Miami Heat podcast, he's been there for all the ups and downs of a wildly inconsistent season. Topics discussed include his immediate reaction to the end of Game 6, favorable/unfavorable matchups vs Denver, whether or not he'd like to see Tyler Herro return, what makes Jimmy Butler stand out as a leader, and how to go about the series as a bettor.

You can find more of Anthony's content on Twitter and YouTube.
