  • Multiple Active Shooter Threats with Rich Kuong

    Multiple incidents around the world have illustrated the risk from attacks with multiple active shooters employing small unit tactics. We have seen this play out in Mumbai in 2008, Kenya in 2013 and 2019, Paris in 2015 and many others. How does this differ from the single attacker incidents that have been more common in the US an dhow do security professionals prepare?

    Major Rich Kuong, USMCR (ret) - possesses over 30 years of experience in private and corporate security, the US Marine Corps, 1st responder training, line and command post planning/operations, crisis response/emergency management, corporate management and law enforcement. He has developed and administered cutting-edge active shooter and counter-terrorism tactical training for 1st responders, military, and private security personnel. Maj Kuong has also consulted or provided training for municipal and city government, corporations, hospitals and educational institutions. Since 2004, he has authored countless AARs and has written feature articles on active shooter/counter-terrorism. Our guest for the podcast James Mason discusses breaching physical security and how an adversarial approach can help prepare organizations to better defend against real world threats.     Fake profiles are a growing concern on social media platforms from LinkedIn to Twitter. Criminals, nation states and various bad actors use them as a vector for social engineering to acquire sensitive information, perpetrate scams and spread disinformation. The growth of artificial intelligence and machine learning is likely accelerating this problem.

    Peter Warmka is a former Senior Intelligence Officer with the CIA having over 20 years of experience in breaching the security of target organizations overseas. He is an Adjunct Professor at Webster University's Masters in Cybersecurity Program, Founder of Orlando, Florida based firm Counterintelligence Institute, LLC and author of the non-fiction book "Confessions of a CIA Spy - The Art of Human Hacking." 

    He is passionate about using his expertise in helping city, state and federal government entities, non-profits, academic institutes, private companies, and individuals to safeguard their sensitive proprietary and personal data.  In addition to conducting his signature training program, Mr. Warmka is a frequent conference speaker, guest podcaster, and author of numerous publications on social engineering and the manipulation of insiders.

    He received a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s degree in International Business Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management. Mr. Warmka is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Certified Instructor at CIA University (CIAU).

Pete Morton is the Principal Consultant at Morton Executive Decisions, and a seasoned analytical intelligence and security consultant with 20+ years of experience in government, commercial, and non-profit security.     Gary Stoner has over twenty years of experience in the security/law enforcement field including over five years as a U.S. Marine, 10 years as a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State (DoS) and now head of Safety & Security for Careem (Uber subsidiary). Gary is a seasoned security professional with accomplished career developing, managing, and executing security operations and training within multiple international environments.

    During Gary’s time as a Special Agent for the DoS he spent most of his career overseas, including tours in Bolivia, Egypt, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan.  Gary was one of five Special Agents selected to support the U.S. National Security Strategy of protecting the Afghan President Hamid Karzai in 2002.

    Prior to joining the U.S. Department of State he was in the United States Marine Corps from March 1987 to January 1993. Gary was selected to be a Marine Security Guard, who provided armed internal security for U.S. Embassies ensuring the protection of all classified material, property, and personnel.

    Gary has a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from George Mason University and ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and has a certification as a Certified Social Media Intelligence Expert.
