Is alcohol an aphrodisiac… or a well-dressed erection killer?

In this episode of the Shameless Care Podcast, Robert and Anna break down how booze actually affects your sex life—from first drink flirty to whiskey dick disaster. We cover:

✅ The sweet spot for alcohol and sexual confidence
✅ Why beer goggles are real (but only work on humans)
✅ The biological tipping point between desire and dysfunction
✅ What “alcohol-induced orgasmic dysfunction” really means
✅ Why women may actually get a testosterone boost from booze
✅ How belief in alcohol’s powers matters just as much as the drink
✅ And why too much can turn great sex into a logistical mess

Plus, we look at Gen Z’s sober sex shift, the legacy of Prohibition on modern consent culture, and why one glass might be sexy—while four could leave you crying in the shower, holding a half-eaten quesadilla.

📈 Real science. Real sex ed. No shame.

    🎙️ Episode Title:
    “Adenovirus: The Eye-Melting, Urethra-Burning, Totally-Not-an-STI STI”

    🎧 Episode Description:
You thought you knew your STIs. You thought testing negative meant you were in the clear. You thought pink eye was just something kids get in school.

Then you got hit with this.

In this episode of the Shameless Care Podcast, Robert and Anna dive into one of the most surprisingly common, totally under-discussed, and outrageously versatile infections in the health world: adenovirus.

Most people think of adenovirus as a harmless “cold virus.” But it can also cause conjunctivitis, gastroenteritis, bladder infections, painful urination, and in rare cases, sepsis. And yes—it can spread through oral sex.

Robert shares his personal horror story: brutal pink eye that knocked him out of commission, followed by excruciating urethritis. It wasn’t gonorrhea. It wasn’t chlamydia. It was adenovirus—transmitted via sex. And he wasn’t the only one. Nearly everyone in his friend group got it, especially the men, and no one realized what it was… until it was too late.

    You’ll learn:
•What adenovirus is and how many strains exist
•The symptoms you don’t expect (like painful urination after receiving oral)
•How adenovirus is transmitted (hint: it’s more than coughing)
•Why it doesn’t show up on your STI panel—but absolutely belongs in sex-positive conversations
•The terrifying moment Robert had Betadine poured directly into his infected eyes (spoiler: it didn’t work)

We’ll also talk about why adenovirus isn’t technically an STI—but still absolutely is a sexually transmitted infection in practice. And how this weird little virus exposes just how blurry the line is between “safe” and “standard,” and why STI stigma still misses the point.

This episode is equal parts gross, fascinating, and essential listening. Because sex spreads more than what we test for, and your negative panel doesn’t tell the whole story.

  • Scaredy Wang: Performance Anxiety, Adrenaline, and a Better Fix
    2025/07/05

    Episode Description:
Let’s talk about the thing no one talks about: erectile dysfunction caused by anxiety, not blood flow.

Jokingly termed "Scaredy Wang" by the SNL character "The Ladies Man" in the 1990's—this kind of ED that shows up at the worst possible time. Like at a play party. Or on a first-time hookup.

This isn’t your average ED. It’s not a blood vessel issue. It’s a brain issue—or more accurately, a nervous system issue.

In this episode, we dive deep into performance anxiety in men, how the sympathetic nervous system floods the body with adrenaline, and how that fight-or-flight response is biologically incompatible with getting and staying hard.

Most men experiencing this don’t need more blood flow. They need less adrenaline.

That’s where propranolol comes in—a beta blocker traditionally used for blood pressure and stage fright. It works by blocking adrenaline’s ability to bind to beta-adrenergic receptors, calming the heart rate and preventing that panicked, “what if I can’t perform” spiral before it starts.

    We break down:
•Why arousal starts in the brain—not the penis
•What adrenaline actually does to erectile function
•How you can have a perfectly healthy vascular system and still lose your erection in the moment
•The science behind propranolol’s ability to “mute” the panic
    •And whether it’s right for you—or just another band-aid

Because let’s be real: nothing ruins the moment like a brain yelling RUN! when your body was ready for fun.

If you’ve ever had this happen to you—or to your partner—this episode is for you.
