    Talking points to bring up:

o Utah Public land belongs to all americanso Every American holds an equal claim to our nation’s public lands and waters, but it’s our responsibility to protect this shared heritage

o History has proven that state-managed lands are often sold off or leased to private interests.

o Federal land management agencies have successfully stewarded these lands for over a century, balancing conservation, recreation, and resource development under a multiple-use mandate. There’s no reason to fix what isn’t broken

o Transferring public lands to state ownership ignores the economic realities of managing these lands, such as costs associated with wildfire and range fire prevention, road maintenance, and other infrastructure. These costs threaten to bankrupt states, forcing them to eventually sell our public lands to cover the costs

If you are a Utah resident, reach out to your district representatives in the legislature

Next we talk about Louisiana's no-fishing buffer that is preventing fish spills. Then we move to Oregon where the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is doing the peoples work and adding new public land. And lastly, we talk about Florida's right to hunt and fish and why it is so important for gun owners and sportsman and woman to get out there and vote!

  • Public Land Protection, JD Vance on Housing, and RMEF's Great Work
    2024/10/08

On this episode I break down my past weekend of deer and squirrel hunting. It always seems like once you switch gears, that's when the deer start showing up! I then work into some conservation news. First thing is the new bill to conserve 700,000 acres in Colorado's Gunnison Basin. This bill has heard over a decade of stakeholder engagement so it is long overdue. Next we switch gears to the vice presidential debate and JD Vance's comments on selling federal land to build housing. This is dangerous and it doesn't matter which party or political candidate you lean toward. And lastly, I talk about the amazing work the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is doing to provide more access for the general public. 6660 acres in WY, 160 acres in CO, 649 acres in PA, 15537 acres in OR, 2600 acres in UT, and a whopping 55,636 acres in KY! Great work by those folks and make sure you go support them! #somethinginthewild #keepitwild https://www.somethinginthewild.com/ https://www.instagram.com/tylerpatricsmith/ https://www.tiktok.com/@tylerpatricsmith

  • Opening Weekend, Utah Theft Update, and Colorado Wolves
    2024/10/01

On this episode, I will be discussing and sharing the story of Sammi and I's first weekend in the stand as the whitetail deer season kicks off in epic fashion! A close encounter lead us to a very hopeful conclusion that this season will hopefully be one to remember! Once finished with my story, I then move into some conservation news. The first topic is shedding more light onto Utah for their attempt to steal public land from the public trust. We then move into the new appointment of the new Wyoming Fish and Game director. And finally, we touch base on the recent news coming from Colorado regarding the wolf depredation cases, relocation efforts, and fatalities. I look forward to sharing the video of Sammi and I's first weekend in the stand this upcoming Thursday. Stay tuned!! #somethinginthewild #keepitwild
