Sustainable South: Wilfred Asuquo (Nigeria)

  • サマリー

  • In today’s episode, we’re thrilled to introduce an extraordinary leader from West Africa, Asuquo Wilfred Okon. Based in Nigeria, Asuquo is a force to be reckoned with in the fields of research, policy development, program management, and advocacy. With a rich background that spans multiple sectors, he brings both expertise and passion to his work, making a tangible impact in the communities he serves.

Asuquo currently represents two organizations that are at the forefront of social change. First, he represents the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Akwa Ibom State, where he is dedicated to protecting, promoting, and preserving the rights of women and children. His work with FIDA goes beyond legal advocacy; he collaborates with local stakeholders to foster transparency and accountability, addressing systemic issues that impact vulnerable groups.

In addition to his advocacy with FIDA, Asuquo is also a driving force at Enactus, University of Uyo. He coordinates innovative programs focused on tackling one of Nigeria's most pressing environmental challenges—waste management. Enactus is known for its groundbreaking initiatives, including “Biogas Tech,” which transforms organic waste into biogas, providing clean energy to local fishermen. This project not only promotes renewable energy but also creates economic opportunities for the community.

Another flagship initiative led by Asuquo is the “Waste-to-Wealth Initiative.” This pioneering project recycles nylon and disposable plastics, turning pollutants into useful products such as pillows and blankets.
