The Art Teacher with Rose McAleese

  • サマリー

  • Hosted by Rose McAleese, The Art Teacher podcast is a part exploration and part celebration. It’s a series of honest discussions with artists at various stages of their careers about a wide range of topics. Do you choose your art or does it choose you? What’s the best rent-paying job you ever had? Do you have to suffer and be sad to be an artist? Is it okay to use your personal relationships for material? Rose will explore it all so we can learn why, in spite of the hard work, the dead ends, the self-doubt, the lean times, and even the danger, people keep on doing art. Rose McAleese started out as a poet, then became a journalist, and now earns her living as a screenwriter. Obviously, she is fatally attracted to jobs that don’t pay. But maybe that’s what makes you an artist: your refusal to stop doing what you love, even when the rent is due.

  • The Weird Funny Girl Feat. Michelle Driscoll
    2021/08/12
On this week’s episode of The Art Teacher, I’m so excited to be joined by New York comedian Michelle Driscoll. After graduating from acting school, Michelle decided to take the plunge to head west and pursue her dreams. Which is where I got to become her friend. (Thank god!) We met working at our “rent” paying jobs, where I immediately fell in love with her. It’s Michelle’s rare and sharp wit that really helped us get through some of the toughest shifts at work.  Michelle is a natural! She has a gift but sometimes she forgets how awesome she is. But what is an artist if not someone who constantly questions themselves? In our conversation, Michelle opens up about her childhood, trying to crack the TikTok algorithm while trying to navigate this strange industry we call Hollywood. It ain’t always easy! But aren’t I so lucky to have a Michelle in my corner to remind me to keep on laughing. Please enjoy! ------ Rose McAleese Instagram/Twitter: @rose_ettastone thenewblogontheblock.com Michelle Driscoll Instagram: @michelledriscool TikTok: @michelledriscool Twitter: @MichDriscool Learn more about your ad choices. • The Makeup Artist Feat. Alyssa Aiken
    2021/07/29
On this episode of The Art Teacher, please listen in on my incredible conversation with make up artist Alyssa Aiken. By way of Chicago she now lives full time in Los Angeles. While COVID has been such a frustrating and uncertain time, Alyssa was able to self reflect and fall back in love with her art. With her fresh perspective, self taught skills, and her super power ability to recreate any look by memory; Alyssa naturally stands out in a crowd.  I’ve always loved that idea that make up artist use a face as a canvas. So I’m so glad I got the opportunity to break it down even more with my great friend Alyssa. Listen in while explore self inspiration, the importance of representation in her industry, and how she executes the perfect eye liner.
