The Backslide of Inclusion: Fighting for Least Restrictive Environment in 2024

  • サマリー

  • Is inclusion moving backwards? How much has changed since 1954's Brown vs. Board of Education? This episode dives into the history of Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and why it's more important than ever. Special education advocate Maureen Brown discusses defending her clients' right to be educated alongside their non-disabled peers and the challenges she faces in securing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the LRE.

    What you'll learn:

    • The history of Least Restrictive Environment
    • How LRE is (or is not) accommodated for in schools
    • The importance of inclusion and advocating for students' rights

If you are a parent, educator, or anyone who believes in the power of inclusion, press play now.

    About Maureen Brown

Years ago, when advocating for her son, Maureen was told so many conflicting things about how the special education process worked. As she began doing her own research and joining different support groups, she connected with other families going through similar challenges. She not only got her son the resources and support he needed to thrive in the school system but made it her mission to help families like yours do so, too. That’s when Ask the Advocate was born. Over the past 22 years, Maureen has resolved thousands of cases, offering solutions such as private education with transportation without high lawyer fees. Most of all, she loves receiving letters, emails, and texts from families she has helped and seeing the impact of her work for decades to follow.
