    Flatwork is very important for developing horses for jumping.  Being mindful of the tempo of the horse's gaits will help improve their quality.  Incorporating transitions and an exercise such as the "spiral-in" will help the horse engage the hind end.  This is an episode featuring a recording from a lesson taught by Denise.

    A brief overview of the EHV outbreak in California in February 2022.  Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV) is a very contagious virus and can cause fever and respiratory illness in horses. A variant of EHV-1 can also cause neurological disease.  Check out he links below for a deeper understanding.

  • E13: ABC1- Arms, Base, Connection: Lesson 1

    Denise made an audio recording of one of her lessons, and is sharing it part of it with you.  This portion of the the lesson focuses on the ABCs:  Arms, Base of support, and Connection.

    In this episode:

    • A trot warm up exercise to lengthen and secure the riders leg.
    • Arm awareness and its effect on the horse's carriage and balance.
    • Connection: riding the horse "from back to front".
    • How the rider's  seat, hips and legs create a solid "base of support".
    •  Effect of Base and Arms on posture and security of rider as well as the movement of the horse.
