  • EP 4 - The Jackie Robinson of Golf Charlie Sifford
    2021/02/10

In this episode I share the story of a black man that most people have never heard of, Mr. Charlie Sifford. Mr. Sifford was the first black golfer to earn his PGA card in 1960.

Mr. Sifford is often known as the "Jackie Robinson of Golf" because like Jackie Robinson, he had to overcome mountain of racism and harassment just to play the game he enjoyed since he was a kid.

If it was not for Mr. Sifford's heroic efforts, players like Tiger Woods, VJ Singh, Calvin Peete, Lee Elder and others may not have had the opportunity to play the game and achieve the things they have in the sport.

During my research on Mr. Sifford I discovered some interesting things about his life that I had not known and I share those things in the episode.

  • EP 3 - Black Wall Street
    2021/02/02

Got another great black history story to share with you, "The Tulsa Massacre" and "Black Wall Street".

Black Wall Street or "Little Africa" as it was also known, was a 35 block area of the "Greenwood District" part of Tulsa, OK.

Greenwood contained approximately 10,000 residents and they all were black. Not only did all blacks live in Greenwood, but every business in Greenwood were owned by black people.

The main street 'Greenwood Ave." contained everyone from barber shop, to post offices and everything in between.

Greenwood was a completely self-sufficient area and it was one of the most affluent black communities in America at that time.

On June 1, 1921 it all came to an end, when a mop of over 1,000 white men, stormed the district and started killing the residents and burning down all of their homes and businesses.

The situation was sparked by a 19 year old black boy named, "Dick Rowland" who allegedly assaulted a 17 year old white girl, while the two were on an elevator together.

  • EP 2 - Valerie L Thomas Black Scientist and Inventor
    2021/01/26

Valerie L. Thomas is a woman that has done some amazing things within the science world and the world of NASA, where she was worked from 1964 - 1995.

Mrs. Thomas create an invention that helped accomplish something that I never been done before at that time, send images from a satellite in space back to earth.

The invention that she created is still being utilized by NASA and has found it's way into other technologies such as tools that surgeons use to look inside the human body.

During this episode, I mention something that gave Mrs. Thomas the idea for her invention, something that she observed while at a science exhibit...

Because it is a little hard to understand what she observed, I have included a link to this video that should help you understand it better. https://youtu.be/h6NqaDxi2KY (Click here to watch it).

Also please feel free to send me a email with your thoughts on this episode. I would love to hear what you think.
