    In Ruth Chapter 1, a famine leads Naomi and her family to Moab. After the deaths of Elimelech and her two sons, Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem. She urges her daughters-in-law, Orpah and Rut, to stay in Moab. Orpah departs, but Rut pledges her loyalty to Naomi. They return to Bethlehem at the start of the barley harvest.
