  • Is the Generalist Role Under Threat
    2024/10/29

    Send us a text

The role of the Generalist clinician typically refers to GPs, although it can also refer to Physician Associates, Nurse Practitioners and others in Primary Care and, to some extent, to Generalists in Secondary care, such as Geriatricians and paediatricians.

Is this role under threat? There is a growing concern that, due to a variety of factors there is a pressure to sub-specialise and compartmentalise patients' problems and thereby diminish provision of holistic care that a Generalist might provide. A potential consequence of this is loss of continuity of care.

This topic is covered in two parts. This episode considers whether this role is indeed other threat and why that might be.

The following episode suggests what action should be taken at an individual level to address this threat.

  • Tricky encounters: Managing Eczema patients
    2024/10/15

    Send us a text

In this episode of The Clinician's Survival Guide we consider some of the challenges, and potential approaches for dealing with patients by anchoring the conversation onto a clinical condition. This is a new approach which we hope will make the learning more tangible.

The episode considers how to deal with atopic dermatitis, and by discussing the situation we often find ourselves in, we derive five take-away lessons to remember.
    We explore:
    "I want an allergy test"
    "Nothing is working"
"Can you refer me to a specialist"
    "I just can't do this"
    "Let's try something stronger"

This will serve as a reminder of dealing with this common condition, and, importantly, making your experience as a clinician a better one.
