  • Messy Utopia: The Blueprint | EP 7 | The Dawn of Us Podcast w/ Rubby Ben
    2024/11/06

Rubby reflects on how academia often isolates knowledge, contrasting this with the holistic learning in pre-colonial Africa, where life, community, and learning were interwoven. She critiques neoliberalism’s fragmented knowledge structure and shares her discovery of “messy utopia” through her professor, George Dei.

This episode explores God’s “upside-down kingdom,” emphasizing true giving, strength in weakness, and redefining success through community rather than individualism. Rubby invites listeners to reimagine a world centered on humanity, grace, and spiritual solidarity.

  • Sweet Grace | EP 6 | Sweet Medicine | The Dawn of Us w/ Rubby Ben
    2024/10/30

In this Sweet Medicine episode, hosts Rubby Ben and Princess explore "Sweet Grace" through Hebrews 12, reflecting on God’s love and correction. His grace, sufficient and transformative, disciplines us out of love to deepen our relationship with Him. Unlike our cultural understanding of rehab, spiritual transformation is a journey with Christ, who strengthens and sanctifies us as we surrender. Through Psalm 34:8, Rubby describes God’s grace as a sensory, comforting experience, reminding us of the sacrifice shown in Romans 6:1-2. This grace, purchased at the cross, invites us to extend forgiveness to others.

  • Messy Love Made Perfect | EP 4| The Dawn Of Us Podcast w/ Rubby Ben
    2024/09/25

Our understanding of love is shaped by societal and cultural influences, often embedding harmful ideas of love rooted in trauma, codependency, and unrealistic expectations. By embracing a counter-narrative rooted in God's love—selfless, patient, and all-encompassing—we can redefine our understanding of love.

This love is not self-serving but is extended to others simply for their humanity. It calls for a decolonized approach to Christianity, one that rejects the misuse of faith for control and instead emphasizes community, hospitality, and genuine care. In this way, our messy, flawed love can be made perfect through God's grace.

Welcome back to Sweet Medicine with Rubby Ben and Princess. Today, we explore the meaning of "tea" in conversations—its nuances and how it reflects personal experiences. Princess discusses the history of tea, while Rubby highlights how women, especially in Black and queer communities, used these spaces to build resilience and share tools for survival. Conversations, like tea, come with ingredients that affect their outcome—sometimes rooted in envy, deceit, or malice. We must be mindful of the impact our words have, ensuring they build up rather than destroy (Ephesians 4:29).
