  • Evening Edition: Can Either Candidate For President Really Lower Housing Costs?
    2024/09/18
The high cost of housing has become a major campaign talking point for both Forme President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. According to a recent polls, almost two thirds of all Americans including a majority of Republicans and Democrats, think housing costs are too high. What does this week's announcement by the Feds that they will cut interest rates for the first time since the COVID pandemic mean for mortgages and can what any president really do to cut costs to housing? • A Call For "More Insights, Fewer Insults" In Politics
    2024/09/18
Both presidential candidates are back on the campaign trail following this weekend’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. After the first attempt on Trump’s life back in July, when he was nearly killed by a shooter’s bullet at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally, there were calls for more civility. Still, both sides soon returned to using fiery rhetoric. Will anything change this time? Former Trump campaign senior adviser and FOX News contributor Kellyanne Conway joins the Rundown to discuss the state of the 2024 presidential race, what President Trump’s strategy should be in the closing weeks, and if she thinks the presidential campaign will be toned down. Rare bipartisan agreement has taken shape in Congress on an issue that is now being fought in the courts. Republicans and Democrats are united in the belief that TikTok must be divested from its parent company, ByteDance, which is controlled by and based in China. Fears have arisen that the app, which has been downloaded by millions of users across the United States, poses a national security risk by allowing the Chinese Communist Party access to U.S. TikTok users’ phones and data. Associate Law Professor at the University of Minnesota Alan Rozenshtein joins to discuss the legal case that faces TikTok and the prospect of the company being split from its Chinese partners. 2024/09/17
In Lebanon, the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah has suffered an attack targeting their fighters, medics, and associates. The method of attack: the explosion of Hezbollah members’ own encrypted pagers. Early on Tuesday, the pagers Hezbollah fighters carry to communicate were detonated, killing at least 9 and injuring more than 2,700 people in what their own organization calls their “biggest security breach.” Seth Frantzman, Adjunct Fellow at The Foundation for Defense of Democracies and Senior Middle East security analyst at The Jerusalem Post, joins the Evening Edition to break down this complex attack on Hezbollah and why it will likely cause panic and fear within the terror group’s ranks.
