  • Episode 39 - David Sanders
    2023/05/18

For Episode 39 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, CLUB MTV dancer David Sanders stops by to talk about his time on the show. Cited by fellow CLUB MTV dancer Jocelyn Druyan as one of her favorite people to dance with on the show, I knew I had to chat with David. An OG of the show, he joined CLUB MTV from the outset in 1987. We get into how he missed a chance to be on Dance Party USA a few years earlier but got the last laugh by getting on the cooler dance show CLUB MTV, dancing with Camille Grammer-Meyer during his audition for the show, how his personal style evolved during his time as a CLUB MTV dancer, being in the music video for the great Jody Watley song "Friends" and so much more.

  • Episode 38 - CLUB MTV 35th Anniversary and MTV Spring Break Memories with Carolyn O'Brien, Tracy Wyle & Janel Scarborough
    2023/03/23

The Hottest Party On TV podcast is back! And this time, we've got a special treat. Club MTV dancer Janel Scarborough is back for her third appearance on the podcast, but she's not alone. She brought fellow Club MTV dancers Carolyn O'Brien and Tracy Wyle along with her. In August 2022, Janel, Carolyn, Tracy, and more of the Club MTV family got together at Nile Rodgers' DiscOasis in Central Park for a roller disco-themed party to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the classic dance show. Get the scoop on how all that came together and what it was like for them to see everyone after so much time apart. Plus, with it being March, they also talk about MTV Spring Break from Daytona Beach. From 1989 to 1991, MTV taped special episodes of Club MTV from Daytona on the beach during all the Spring Break festivities, so those three have all the tea! From the Club MTV dancers' Spring Break bus crash that derailed an early attempt by MTV to get into reality tv pre-Real World to fun Digital Underground and MC Hammer stories, and more. Who taught them how to do the Humpty Dance in Daytona? You'll just have to listen and find out!

  • Episode 37 - Helena Apothaker
    2022/08/11

For Episode 37 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, actress, stylist, and Club MTV dancer Helena Apothaker reminisces about her time on MTV's iconic dance show. Before appearing on programs such as Married With Children, Days of Our Lives, Chicago Hope and House, Helena was busting a move on Club MTV in 1987 & 1988. It was really cool to get her perspective on the show during that time but also what it was like going out to clubs and seeing underground movements and trends start to bubble up and cross over into the mainstream. We also get into her thoughts on Downtown Julie Brown, why in her opinion a show like Club MTV probably wouldn't work today, and how she knew when it was time for her to leave Club MTV. Helena also tells the story of how she discovered the Club MTV Fan Page account on Instagram and how that helped get her through a really tough moment in her life.

  • Episode 36 - The Return of Lonnie Hughes
    2022/07/28

In Episode 36 of The Hottest Party On TV, Club MTV dancer Lonnie Hughes makes his return to the podcast. Lonnie was on the podcast's first episode where he talked about coming to New York from the Virgin Islands, how he got on Club MTV and all the lessons he learned from his time on the show, and his enduring friendships. Lonnie is back on as he's got a very special project coming out that he'd love for you all to learn about. The dancer, actor, and all-around creative force has turned his hand to music as an outlet and is dropping his single "I Miss You" this week, and I'm very honored that he wanted this podcast to be the first place he got to talk long-form about the new song, how it came to be and how he hopes it will make people feel.

  • Episode 35 - Dawn James
    2022/07/21

For Episode 35 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, we're back with another interview with a Club MTV dancer and this time it's Dawn James! Her younger sister Robin was on the podcast a few weeks ago and that was a blast so it only made sense to chat with Dawn. And wow, what a story. Dawn made the most of her time dancing on Club MTV from 1987 to 1989 and really turned into a learning experience, soaking up as much knowledge and information as she could from the show's producers and camera guys, so it's no surprise that Dawn herself embarked on a decorated career producing, directing and working both behind the scenes and in front of the cameras. She's got a ton of great stories. We get into the Club MTV concert tour, Daytona Spring Break, her friendship with the late Gilbert Gottfried, her thoughts on if a show like Club MTV could work today and so much more.

  • Episode 34 - Tara Kemp
    2022/07/14

In Episode 34 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, 90s pop sensation Tara Kemp stops by to talk about her career. Tara is best known for her great 1991 hits "Hold You Tight" and "Piece of My Heart", which peaked at #3 and #7 respectively. "Hold You Tight" was the single that really put Giant Records on the map and made them a destination for a lot of hot pop, R&B, and hip hop acts during the early 90s as hits would soon follow afterward for the label from Color Me Badd, Jade, Jeremy Jordan, Good2Go and more. Of course, Tara made the rounds on the 90s dance shows of the day, you know Club MTV, The Party Machine, etc. She was also one of the acts that took part in the nationwide Club MTV concert tour in 1991 alongside Color Me Badd, Bell Biv Devoe, Tony! Toni! Toné!, C+C Music Factory, and Gerardo. Tara is also in the process of re-recording her classic hits and her shelved 1994 sophomore album that never got released in the 90s.

  • Episode 33 - Billy Angell
    2022/06/30

In Episode 33 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, Club MTV dancer Billy Angell stops by to talk all about his time on MTV's dance show. Huge shout out to Club MTV dancer and guest on Episode 28 Rochele Seskin for setting this up! When she recommended that I talk to Billy and put the two of us in contact, I knew I had to jump on it right away. A gymnast and musical theatre kid, Club MTV really was the right gig at the right time for a young Billy. He was on the show from 1987 through much of 1989 and as you'll hear him tell it, he really blossomed during his time on the show, finding his style, body confidence and so much more. We talk about how he got on Club MTV, his deep affinity for Debbie Gibson, his enduring friendship with Rochele, the joy he gets from teaching dance and what it was like dancing on tour for Gloria Estefan. He's done a lot!
