Anthony Gordon saw a first half penalty saved by Jordan Pickford as Newcastle United were held to a goalless draw at Everton on Saturday night. James Tarkowski's foul on Sandro Tonali handed England winger Gordon the chance to score against his former club on Merseyside, but his international teammate was equal to it, saving low to his left. Gordon stepped up to send Ederson the wrong way from the spot just before the hour after being felled by the Brazilian goalkeeper, cancelling out Joško Gvardiol's first half opener at St. James' Park in an entertaining encounter. Newcastle United climbed to third in the fledgling Premier League table as they maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Meetings between the two sides in the Black Country have more often than not seen the spoils shared in recent years, and this one looked to be heading for another draw.
