Monsters Of The Midwest: Lost tracks from the action sixties! If you dig this kind of obscure music be sure to visit my Monacled Alchemist website for information and details on many unsung heroes.. This episode features twelve choice cuts from sought after 60s garage psych compilation “Monsters of the Midwest volume 3”, a series dedicated to promote the vital mid-states 60s music scene. Monsters of the Midwest Focus on The Teardrops: Hailing from The Trolls stomping grounds, Pueblo, Colorado, must have been a heavy burden. How can you out-cool The Trolls – the grungiest and most bizarre group of fuzzed-out mutants in the State! Wisely, The Teardrops elected not to try, or maybe didn’t care – check out their resplendent nerdiness on the picture sleeve. Hey, Raider boots couldn’t even help ’em! Based upon this single’s weak B-side and their previous two 45s (ultra lame but one has a cool sleeve and is kind novelty / punk) “Sweet, Sweet Sadie” is probably the only strong number they ever did. Featured songs in order of appearance: ‘Teenage Mother’ movie advert ‘The Damned’ movie advert Teardrops – Sweet, Sweet Sadie Trolls – That’s The Way My Love Is Fraternity Of Man LP radio advert Monuments – African Diamonds ‘The Jokers’ movie advert Intruders – She’s Mine Living End – But I’ll Live The Listening Post Club radio promo Jeans – In My Own Time Barry Ebling & the Invaders – I Can Make It Without You ‘The Producers’ motion picture advert Plato & the Philosophers – I Don’t Mind Wild Things – Tell Me Great Imposters – Who Do You Love? ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ movie advert Soothsayers – Do You Need Me? This episode features twelve choice cuts from sought after 60s garage psych compilation “Monsters of the Midwest volume 2”, a series dedicated to promote the vital mid-states 60s music scene. Focus on Tommy Tucker & the Esquires: The Iowa Great Lakes Recording Studio and label IGL was based in tiny Milford, Iowa. Bands from the surrounding area of Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and, of course, Iowa came in droves as this was the only facility for miles. Over 100 singles were issued on IGL and it’s sister label, Sonic. This pounding three chord raver (with amazing drum sound for the era) was unleashed by way of Des Moines. The group had a previous 45 (IGL 108) that is vastly inferior to the track included (IGL 121). Minor-key weepers Head and the Hares: “Try To Forget”: If you dig this kind of obscure music be sure to visit my Monacled Alchemist website for information and details on many unsung heroes.. Head and the Hares are seldom mentioned these days but at the start of the nineties they meant a lot to a handful of people around the world. When the bone-throwing, fuzz-propelled garage punk was starting to wane dramatically these boys from Rome started a band to demonstrate their admiration for the moody folk-rock sound of New England circa 66/67. So here is a taster of their 1992 LP released on Moulty Records. Magical and bleak original songs sit proudly with covers by the 24 Karat 5, The Effects and the Barons. The world has never been so melancholic since. Head and the Hares: “Try To Forget” Featured songs in order of appearance: Mountaindale Festival concert radio promo I’ve Been Told I Saw Erica Neil Diamond Buick Automobile radio advert Try To Forget From My Window Nirvana ‘The Story Of Simon Simonpath’ LP radio advert Tomorrow Never Ends NYC National Customer Auto Show promo One Against The World Ohio Express concert promo Sorry Get You I Don’t Know Peanut Butter Conspiracy concert promo Message To Pretty How She Was Good For Me Love If You Can In 1992, the band cheaply recorded a demo tape, which included a cover version of a song by the original Head and the Hares “I Won’t Come Back” and other originals, and sent it to Dave Brown of Moulty/Distortions Records. He was very impressed by the band’s pure New England sound and offered to release an ep on his label. The band travelled 100 miles north of Rome to an analogue studio located in a small village called Tobia near lake of Vico to record four songs chosen from their live set The post 67: HEAD AND THE HARES try to forget appeared first on The Monocled Alchemist.
