The Power of Peers with Leo Botarry

  • サマリー

  • In this week's episode I am talking to Leo Bottary, an expert in the power of peers. We talk about the importance of our peers and how they can support us in our leadership positions. We discuss the ways in which people can feel connected within their organisations and how even with a work from home culture there are still ways to help people feel part of the team. We talk about the effects lockdowns had on teams with some surprising benefits. We also talk about the importance of the people we surround ourselves with and how the workplace in these modern times demands leaders who can work within a culture of openness, transparency and vulnerability. Leo will truly open your eyes to the huge benefits of working with peers.

    About Leo:
Leo Bottary is the founder and managing partner of Peernovation, LLC. An award-winning author of three books, including Peernovation: What Peer Advisory Groups Can Teach Us About Building High PerformingTeams (November 2020), he is also a speaker, podcaster, adjunct professor for Rutgers University, and Opinion Columnist and Advisory Board Member for CEOWORLD magazine.

Leo’s first book, which he co-authored with former Vistage CEO Leon Shapiro, The Power of Peers: How the Company You Keep Drives Leadership Growth & Success (2016), explored how and why formal peer groups for CEOs and business leaders are so effective. His second book, What Anyone Can Do: How Surrounding Yourself with the Right People Will Drive Change, Opportunity, and Personal Growth (2018)examined the power of enlisting and engaging the complete circle of the people who surround us in both formal and informal settings.

Prior to teaching at Rutgers, Leo was an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University, where he led graduate-level online and on-campus learning teams studying leadership and strategic communication. In April 2015, he was named adjunct teacher of the year for Seton Hall’s College of Communication and the Arts.

Earlier in his career, Leo led corporate communications at Vistage Worldwide (2010-2016) and served in senior leadership positions at Mullen and Hill+Knowlton.  In the mid-1990s, he founded a public relations agency that a leading trade publication hailed as a regional powerhouse, new media pioneer, and great place to work.

Leo earned a BA from Jacksonville University, an MA in Strategic Communication and Leadership from Seton Hall, and completed his doctoral coursework at Northeastern.

    About Adam:

I am a Certified EOS® Implementer and an executive leadership coach. I work with CEO’s, managing directors, their boards and leadership teams as well as aspiring leaders who want to climb the corporate ladder. I help them achieve greater results for their teams, their businesses and themselves. How? By taking them from where they are to where they want to get to. I do that not by answering their questions, but by questioning their questions. By being Frank and Fearless. I ask tough questions and encourage my clients to say what they really think. I create space to enable them to stop, pause and reflect. Out of that space comes clarity and real opportunities for growth. I help my clients do incredible things. I help them understand that good and bad things happen. Life goes on regardless. What matters is your perspective and how you react to the shit that happens to you. What you get out of life depends on how you navigate your way through it.
