  • How to quit work in your twenties with Sophie
    2022/09/01

Sophie quit her government job in her twenties to go into extremely early retirement.

    How?

Through her real estate investments, occasional part-time work, and some seriously frugal living.

After moving thousands of miles to the Canadian north to seek adventure, she found herself unimpressed with the office workplaces she encountered there.

Sophie wanted so badly to stop this nonsense. So she asked herself: “What if I retire?“

It didn’t take too much courage. She’d been living frugally for years, feeding herself with rice and beans and acquiring clothes and furniture from The Free Store. She’d invested in two properties, as well as some land on which she’d built a cabin with her own hands.

Liberated from social pressures of working life, Sophie feels like she’s finally allowing herself to be who she wants to be!

  • Reaching financial independence without realizing it with The Dragons on FIRE
    2022/06/08

The Dragons on FIRE are a couple living in the United States, both born in the year of the Dragon.

Dragon Gal has been retired almost five years and Dragon Guy for two-and-a-half years, even though they’re only in their forties.

And here’s the kicker: they reached financial independence without even knowing it!

We went deep into the personal side of financial independence and retiring early: the relationship between health and wealth, how to design a career that allows you to travel, how to deal with guilt, loneliness and sadness in early retirement, and how to handle suddenly spending so much more time together as a couple after early retirement.

You can connect with The Dragons on FIRE on their web site thedragonsonfire.com and you can follow them on Twitter @DragonGuyAndGal.

  • Talking about money with friends & family with Maggie Tucker from Friends on FIRE
    2022/05/25

Maggie has been talking about money with her friend Mike on the Friends on FIRE podcast for over 2 years.

Now, after 150+ episodes, Maggie has taken the plunge and retired early. Really early: Maggie reached financial independence before 40.

Maggie and I talk about why she quit work despite quite liking her work, about the difference between minimalism and frugality, and about quitting work at a time when inflation is up and the stock market is down.

But above all, we talk about talking about money, with your co-workers, your friends and your kids.

You can connect with Maggie and Mike on their web site www.friendsonfire.org or on Instagram @friends.onfire.

And you can find their podcast by searching for Friends on FIRE in your podcast player.

  • Working from the maritime industry towards financial independence with Christina from Yuppie on FIRE
    2022/05/11

Christina’s job in the maritime industry allowed her to travel the world.

She met people from a wide range of backgrounds, from the sailors on the ships to the board of directors.

    But it wasn’t enough.

Taking a step back during lockdown, she examined her relationship with work, and discovered that her strengths and values were the complete opposite of the role she was working in.

So she renegotiated her position with her employer and wrote her own job description.

Now she’s pursuing financial independence and taking a 3-month sabbatical to work on her side hustle.

You can follow Christina on Instagram @yuppieonfire, where she creates beautifully clear posts about Financial Independence.

    Christina mentioned:

    • Female Invest
    • The Science of Well-Being course from Yale
