  • Tefilah Reexamined: Part 1 - Questions and a First Step
    2024/09/06

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!

    Length: 1 hour 28 minutes
Synopsis: This morning (9/6/24), in the first shiur of our NEW Machshavah Lab series for women called "Tefilah Reexamined." Since I'm designing and teaching a year-long course on tefilah for high school students, I decided this summer to investigate the whole subject of tefilah afresh, from the ground up. We'll begin with a deep dive into what the mitzvah of tefilah is, and we'll see where that takes us. In this morning's shiur, we went through the basic facts from the Rambam, then focused on analyzing his presentation in the Sefer ha'Mitzvos. We raised a bunch of questions, then took one important first step based on the Ralbag. Next time (בג"ה), we'll attempt to take an even greater step based on the Rambam himself. I'm looking forward to exploring tefilah over the course of this year with anyone who is interested!

  • Tehilim 24 REDUX: Sunday's Psalm (Shir Shel Yom Rishon b'Shabbos) (Part 1)
    2024/09/05

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!

    Length: 57 minutes
Synopsis: Tonight (9/4/24), in our first Wednesday night Tehilim shiur of the 2024-2025 season, we began our re-analysis of Sunday's Shir Shel Yom. We learned through this in shiur two years ago (10/26/22, 11/2/22), but found it to be difficult. I don't remember what we said, but I remember that I wasn't satisfied. Because this perek if featured prominently in the Malchiyos section of the Mussaf Rosh ha'Shanah, I thought it would be a good idea to give it another shot. This evening, we got through the translation and question phase. Next time, we'll start analyzing the ideas - and I already have two leads!

  • Tehilim 7: Shigayon le'David (Part 3)
    2024/05/30

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!

    Length: 1 hour 9 minutes
Synopsis: Last night (5/29/24), in our Wednesday night Tehilim shiur, we attempted to "land the plane." Since it had been two weeks since our last shiur, we began by reviewing everything - the translations, the questions, and the approaches - and then set out to get as many individual ideas as we could. The ideas were great, but I wasn't sure we'd be able to pull it all together. But with Hashem's help, we were able to arrive at a solid PRACTICAL main idea towards the very end which incorporated all of our other insights. I call that a win! This was a difficult perek, but it was worth the effort.

The Torah content this week has been dedicated by me in honor of Ann with gratitude for her monthly support of my Torah content and in celebration of her engagement to Ben. Mazal tov!

In other news, I am considering relaunching my Rambam Bekius podcast. My goal is to cover the entirety of the Rambam’s Hilchos Tefilah, halacha by halacha, in short (5-10 minute) daily episodes. If you are interested in sponsoring my Rambam content specifically, please let me know! I’m eager to make this project a reality, and I’m ready when you are!
