  • Episode 1: Hakeem Jimo
    2021/03/05

Hakeem Jimo is the founder and owner of VeggieVictory, Africa’s first meat substitute food company.  Hakeem was born outside Hamburg, Germany, to a German mother and a Nigerian father.  Upon completing his schooling, he moved to Africa 20 years ago to work as a journalist covering West Africa for a German media company.  After nine years he started a public relations company.  In 2013, after becoming frustrated by not having the same vegetarian food options at home that he saw while on a trip to Asia, he and his partner started Nigeria’s first vegetarian/vegan restaurant.  Realizing that consumers needed more product offerings to prepare at home and seeing firsthand the difficulties in opening restaurants in Nigeria, he set out to create the first commercial-scale meat substitute product.  Listen to Hakeem’s one-of-a-kind account as a Lagos, Nigeria-based entrepreneur as he forges his path and of the difficulties faced, lessons learned, and prospects for the future.
