  • The Way of the Magician- Matty Huynh
    2022/07/31

In this episode of The Way in All Things I talk with Matty Huynh, a magician with 2 decades worth of practice and commitment to magic.

Matty is an interesting one because he learned magic without a teacher, a feat that anyone who has learned anything can claim. Not only has Matty taught himself magic, but he has also applied that same diligence and commitment to the craft of golf, tennis, speed solving Rubik's, cubes, piano, and much much more.

There are a lot of valuable lessons in this one especially around the areas of discipline, passion, interests as well as times when those things were not so prevalent, necessary, and sometimes disappeared from existence completely.

  • The Way of the Artist - Pam Corwin
    2022/04/26

If you are tired of hearing that manic advice of  rise and grind, sleep less, work more, `hustle or die? If you are, this is the perfect episode for you.

In this episode I interview Pam Corwin, a mixed media artist based in Olympia WA.

Her transition from full time employed to full time artist is one that began with a very big sum of luck, but when that luck ran out it was then that Pam had to find a way to adapt to the changing tide which required that thing that most people in the world tend to avoid……real conscious intention.

What you will find in this episode is a lot of advice that I would describe as more warm, gentle, and feminine which contrasts with the more masculine, hard, tough advice that is so common in the zeitgeist these days. People out there like Jocko Willink, David Goggins, and others like them can be the kick in the pants we need but sometimes if we are so down in the dumps, broken down and beat up, maybe the advice that these type of people offer will cause us to downward spiral even further.

Now I'm not saying it's ok to play the victim role, far from it. Listening to this episode you will find that it's about being sensitive to the balance of things. Maybe you are pushing too hard, maybe you are in a cycle of bad luck, maybe you are making things bigger than they need to be. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is to take a break, but only if you take it in the right way and at the right time, and in this episode Pam will show you how to do that.

I guarantee that after listening to this episode you will walk away knowing the importance of structure, balance, luck, community, and most importantly you will have a greater grasp on keeping that inner creative spirit alive and healthy because when suffers, everything suffers

    Quotes from the Episode…..

“In the art world, what you are doing is coming from such a deep place both in your heart, spirit and brain, wherever you see it coming from, you have to feed that place, if that place is not getting fed, you need to take a walk and a vacation and let that place refuel.” -Pam Corwin

“Beating yourself up too much over a failure is just so counterproductive, but you have to learn from it….If I failed two or 3 times in a row I would probably give up to, but that is the time you really have to dig deep” -Pam Corwin

“If you are too tangled up in ego you are not going to be able to see the path because you are going to be all tied up in wanting people to tell you you are good at it  and for you to see success and that is all.” -Pam Corwin

“Finding that inner voice or feeling that tells you “I'm sick of this, what am i going to do what can I do to change this”, then getting excited that you have found a new project changing your life” -Pam Corwin
