Two Interpretations of Revelation

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away” -from Revelation 21:1

We have two ways we can read the words of Revelation.

We can believe that these are future events that will take place at the end of the world. So we accept a world that in the meantime is destined to keep getting worse.

Or we can believe that words of Revelation are taking place right now and in every generation.

We can believe the words of Jesus that the Kingdom of God is already in our midst within and among us.

We can believe the words of Paul who declares that everyone in Christ is a new creation where the old things have passed away and all things have become new.

If we choose the second interpretation we will become students who learn to walk in the ways of love, bringing good news to the poor, welcome to the stranger, freedom to the oppressed, and who bind up the broken hearted.
