Recipe for a Good Old-Fashioned Western Shootout (Cocktail)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube or 1/2 tsp simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 orange peel (for garnish)
  • 1 maraschino cherry (for garnish)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Glass: In an Old Fashioned glass, place the sugar cube (or simple syrup) at the bottom.
  2. Add Bitters: Drench the sugar with the Angostura bitters.
  3. Muddle: Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar and bitters together until well mixed.
  4. Add Whiskey: Pour in the bourbon or rye whiskey over the muddled sugar.
  5. Ice It Up: Add a large ice cube or a handful of smaller ice cubes to the glass.
  6. Stir: Gently stir the mixture for about 20 seconds to chill and dilute the drink slightly.
  7. Garnish: Twist the orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then place it in the glass along with the maraschino cherry.
  8. Serve: Enjoy your good old-fashioned Western shootout cocktail!
